The 10 Doctors - Page 90
With the help of the Monk, the 10th Doctor makes a shattering discovery. He is here because someone is trying to change the outcome of the Last Great Time War. He holds in his hand the means to change the course of his own history, assuming nothing happens to his previous incarnations.
The original of which has just encountered the Keeper of the Matrix. Aka: The Valeyard!

April 29th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
Great chapter, and so soon!
Keep it up! ^_^
April 29th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
Come on Doctor, change the past… Just one line…
April 29th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
Rich! Your Holiday must have regenerated you! At least I can post my five page link on the Arabian horse forum I belong to! Somebody ther is reading this, I am not checking that link that much!
I can see Ten with his glasses, you must be praciticing between pages.
Keep up the GREAT work!
April 29th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
Yes! Page 90! I love it when you can chuck pages out like this!
And it’s Pompeii all over again! The Doctor can possibly change the course of history and save Gallifrey! Let’s just hope he remembers what Sarah Jane said in “School Reunion”.
And the Valeyard…. He looks… well, he looks a little strange. He looks like that one guy you know who used to go to school with you and he won’t leave you alone… I hate those guys… I think it’s because you drew him without the hat he had earlier.
April 29th, 2008 at 10:12 pm
Absolutely wonderful! The plot thickens (further)!
I can practically hear Ten in this scene. Your dialogue is brilliant!
April 29th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
So many pages! I’m overdosing on awesome!
April 29th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
Awesome! I can’t wait to see McGann’s Doc again. His meeting with his other selves is sure to be epic!
April 29th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
Woo! Another page so quick! =D
I’ve been lurking a while, but never commented, so…
Anyway, your last couple pages, and the whole comic for that matter, have been amazing.
And panel 6 is pretty much made of win.
Keep up the great work!
April 29th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
It totally chopped of the last part of my post… D;
I was thinking Ten would have more moral dilemmas about changing the Time War if it could save his people…
Perhaps Nine more so, but still…?
-meep-
April 30th, 2008 at 12:11 am
Oh, wow, two pages this week!! Did my birthday come early??
Anyway, still amazing. And the Valeyard! I truly adore the Valeyard and I can’t wait to see what evil he’ll cause. Your art of the 10th Doctor is just amazing.
Thank you so much for another great page.
April 30th, 2008 at 12:23 am
Love the rapid fire updates, Rich. Good work.
April 30th, 2008 at 12:53 am
Way kewl. So many updates, and each with a differing plot line update…Hope Terminus is coming up soon…Though, not sure what the gals can do from there (it’s only the center of the universe).
April 30th, 2008 at 1:00 am
ANOTHER new comic! *boing boing boing*
You really do such a good job with capturing Ten. Which is not to say you don’t do a good job with the others - they’re all excellent! But I have a particular soft spot for Ten.
April 30th, 2008 at 1:07 am
*bounces happily* YAY! Thank you for spoiling us with two comics in a row, Rich.
April 30th, 2008 at 1:36 am
Here’s a brilliant idea: Since Maxil is unconscious, why doesn’t Doctor Ten kiss him in wake him up? Ten *is* from the Russell Davies Era, after all … What’s that? Not as good as Grace/Fred? Ah well, that’s why you’re the genius, Rich.
Cheers.
April 30th, 2008 at 2:48 am
I had been wondering why the 6th Doctor and Commander Maxil looked so much the same, until I was browsing around Wikipedia and found out they’re played by the same actor (Colin Baker)! That really makes me feel like the classic-Who noob that I am!
Anyway, I really enjoy your ‘10 Doctors’ comics so keep up them going
April 30th, 2008 at 3:00 am
Here I am again, Yay, two pages!
@Rich: Hi there! Wow! I’m glad I was able to encourage appreciation of the Classic series! You’re too kind!
@me: Well, it’s just the truth!
I’m really enjoying and loving it! (both Classic Doctor Who and the comic :P) I even started to listen some Big Finish audioepisodes on my iPod while I’m going to work! aahhh nice stuff to pass time hehe and when I’m arrived it’s funny ’cause there’s always the cliffhanger and I’m left with curiosity! ah! XD so, *Thank you*!
———-
@Rich: Weak points, eh? I’d love to hear your critique, really. What parts do you not like? Personally I’m not too fond of the bit where the 9th Doctor freaks out and goes after the Rani. But I needed to blow up some of the TARDISes. I may rework that part someday.
@me: That’s precisely one of the points! And now I see, it was for plot purposes.
Then there’s Rose, she’s just too bitchy.. hilarious but bitchy! I don’t know, it doesn’t feel right in some parts but I guess it was “for the lulz”! XD
Another one it’s about Five, maybe I got it wrong, it seems you’re trying to give every doctor a big part to play the hero but in his case I feel he’s a little left out. I mean, he just agrees (or not) and worries! XD I saw very little of him (I find him a bit dull °_°) so can’t really say if it’s his persona.. uhm, you’ve probably some big twist in your sleeve for him.. or maybe not because you “hate” him! XD
———-
@Rich: Keeping track of everything isn’t as hard as it sounds, actually. But it may not be a sign of genius so much as insanity. It’s a fine line, they say.
@me: eh! It’s a constant struggle.. but I’m betting on the genius one!
———-
@Rich: You’re English is FINE! You’re certainly easier to understand than a lot of English speakers I know! Thank you for dropping a line!
@me: Now *you* are too kind! hehe
You know, I was going to ask you if Maxil had died O_o And here is the answer, scary. You read your readers minds confess! XD Anyway, it would be interesting a meeting between six and him XD do you have something in mind about it?
Aw man, the Valeyard *punches him* XD
Salutes from work!
La Donzella
April 30th, 2008 at 3:47 am
Oh, wow! I wasn’t expecting another update so soon. I was just checking it before I go to bed. I love ten, and how he almost said something he shouldn’t. Also I think it’s funny how as soon as he has the data spool he takes off the robes and puts on the glasses.
April 30th, 2008 at 4:19 am
Look out Doctor #1!
Nooooooooo!
I suppose at least the Valeyard can’t just shoot him - after all, he is a future regeneration of the First Doctor, of sorts…
April 30th, 2008 at 4:34 am
i love the details on Ten! The little freckles are so cute lol
April 30th, 2008 at 4:41 am
Woah - the plot sickens!
April 30th, 2008 at 4:45 am
Ohh more updates.
I hope this doesn’t mean, that we are nearing the end - I would sooo miss this comic.
Me too am going to cheer to the Doctor: CHANGE IT; CHANGE IT; CHANGE IT!!!
April 30th, 2008 at 5:23 am
The shocked expression on Ten’s face made me laugh! He’s so funny, then an instant later, he’s all agro. Can’t wait till he deals with Maxil!
The Valyard. Eh, What? One’s being hit with a time stick! Hmmmph!
April 30th, 2008 at 6:29 am
Three new pages so close together… You’re spoiling us, Rich!
April 30th, 2008 at 6:44 am
gecks stuff all of the above praise and joy, into one little box, and lets the contents erupt in a massive explosion of intense happyness!
Fantastically Brilliant!!!!!
April 30th, 2008 at 7:09 am
Yaaaaay!!
I do love ten in his glasses, you capture him so well! Although he frightens me a little on panel 7… something in the face? I dunno.
Keep up the fantasticness, Rich! I bow down to you.
April 30th, 2008 at 7:22 am
Woooohoooooooo!! Don’t stop now, Rich, keep ‘em coming!! =)
April 30th, 2008 at 7:53 am
Oh, nice. I really like where this is going… and I hope it all goes towards the super-mega-happy ending eventually
April 30th, 2008 at 8:31 am
Things are hotting up. Please keep it going. The suspense is great.
April 30th, 2008 at 8:35 am
Oh, the Valeyard … He can’t kill the Doctor, it’d cause a temporal paradox! Unless…
He has a Paradox Machine…
Or he’s from another dimension…
Or they dress Maxil up as the Sixth Doctor and the Valeyard kills him instead by accident…
Or he kills the Doctor 12-and-a-half times exactly, therefore creating himself…
Or there’s some other weird wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff going on…
Or…
Or…
Or…
Wow that’s a lot of ors.
April 30th, 2008 at 8:54 am
As usual, this is just too brilliant…and I love it to pieces. And two in such quick succession! Dang.
From the last one, I’d like to say…I _love_ how you draw Three. His expressions, his poses, the face (especially on the “Don’t waste our breath” panel where he’s behind Five, heh) are just spot-ON. And the mannerisms…but you’ve heard all this before.
Anyway, Three is “My Doctor” (my favourite), so I especially love seeing him show back up again, and in such a well-done way. (I haven’t yet really met Five. I’m going through the series in order and am up to the last of Four’s series…es. Last episode I saw: Part 1 of “The Keeper of Traken”, if anybody cares.)
Although of course I’m also interested to see what’s shakin’ with Seven, Two and Davros, Nine, Drax and the Rani, “The Fabulous Baker Boys”, etc…
I’m also tres amused at how your Master is kind of this little _pixie_ version of Ainley/Delgado, only younger looking. Heh. I’m guessing I probably would’ve liked him had this version ever quite been on the show. (My favourite Master is Delgado, but seeing as how I’m such a fan of Three’s era, that’s not so surprising.)
And this page! Ten’s expressions are just so HIM, and everything about the way he looks/is acting in panel five is perfect beyond words. The expression, the hair, the glasses, the freckles, the suit…
And you know what? I am such a geek, that I was also actually happy that Maxil isn’t dead. Yay! (I like Os’s idea for how the Doctor could “revive” him (snicker).) And the Meddling Monk is back. And One looking strangely cool in those ridiculous robes–a trick almost nobody else in the universe can manage…
Not to mention, the plot has thickened in like the best possible way in THE HISTORY OF EVER. Oh man. I know you can’t _really_ prevent the Time War and save Gallifrey but that part of the new series bugs me so much…I mean, of course in a fan publication it’s not _canon_, but seeing an unofficial thing where things turn out okay after all _in a plausible, well-written way_ can cheer me right the heck up.
One last thing: I hate to be pedantic, but the parallell universes in “Inferno” and “Age of Steel” cannot possibly be the same one. Why not? Well, life on Earth…kind of didn’t make it past 1970, in the Inferno universe…(shudders.) And it came within _seconds_ of being wiped out here, too! Brr…
If you don’t know what I mean, go see it/again. (I mean everybody, not just you, Rich.) That is one dark-arse story, especially for its oldschool time period. But in a _good_ way.
Shutting up finally…
…Notorious
April 30th, 2008 at 9:00 am
Ah, the ultimate Time Lord dilemma. The one thing they’re absolutely not allowed to do - change an event fixed in history. He resisted the temptation in Pompeii - can he do it here as well? I adore the shocked look on his face as realisation hits in panel 6. Brilliant.
I love the way you’ve caught the essence of the First Doctor’s speech patterns - that slightly bumbling, “I’ve forgotten my lines and we can’t afford too many takes” feel to his dialogue.
April 30th, 2008 at 9:08 am
Another new page? I was checking to keep up with the comments from the last page, and surprise! Glad to see that things have settled down a bit at work, Rich? Don’t wear yourself out on our account. n__n
I also laughed when between being handed the data spool and finding somewhere to examine it, he lost his robes and put on his glasses. Because they help him think!
Captain Chaotica: And if the Valeyard was from the ‘Inferno’ universe, he’d have to have an eyepatch, right? Or he’d be good. Since it seems like the good and evil characters were reversed. Though there were reasons for that… Anyway.
April 30th, 2008 at 10:15 am
Valeyard from the Inferno universe - well,it would be a universe where humans were wiped out, but the Doctor wasnt stranded there at the time, right? So the High Council did some different shenanigans to create him, not moving the Earth.
I love this page the way -poor 10! To have the chance to save his people, and thousands of other species and planets in his hands, and not to be able to use it bcs of a technicality! Honestly, if he doesnt try to use it, I don’t know how he’d be able to live with himself. All he hung onto as the 9th Doctor and sometimes as 10, is that he tried, he tried, to save everyone, and in the end, all he could do to save the universe was destroy his own people along with the Daleks. If that’s not true anymore, if he could have saved them….and doesnt… I dont see how anyone could cope.
It’s not like 20,000 people or the Earth, it’s thousands of planets in the universe if he prevents the war from escalating. While normally I’d say size of comparable disasters is irrelevent - in this case it’s just too huge not to try to save everyone.
April 30th, 2008 at 10:18 am
To quote Eric Cartman–it’s going down! $%*! is going down!!!!
April 30th, 2008 at 10:27 am
yussssssss! thanks for updating soooooo quickly
April 30th, 2008 at 10:37 am
Can I just say at this point that I’d be willing to pay money for this in print? Seriously.
April 30th, 2008 at 10:41 am
Just discovered this a few days ago. It’s really awesome! Or to quote nine: “Fantastic!”
I hope you can keep it up to one page/day ^_^;
April 30th, 2008 at 11:31 am
Monk: “You now have the means to change that! Unless … ”
Ten: “Unless?”
Monk: “Unless something happens to one of your past selves first!”
Whoops. Too bad about Four!
And the Valeyard makes an appearance at last! You know, I always thought he should have gone after the First Doctor instead of the Sixth. Since he’s part of the Doctor’s future, it would be no more of a paradox than going after the Sixth. Plus, he’d get the full twelve regenerations instead of just the seven that Six had left!
April 30th, 2008 at 11:53 am
He’s only a potential part of the Doctor’s future, which is why it would have been possible for him to possess 6 since 6 was the Doctor’s present. Now he could only possess 10 without causing a paradox…but on the other hand, he’s the Valeyard, paradox shouldn’t be too offputting to him.
April 30th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
I don’t comment on this comic nearly so often as I should, given that I’m an avid reader — but I did want to say again that I’m really, really enjoying it, and I love the way you write and draw all the characters. They’re so very . . . *them*.
April 30th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
Wow a new comic so soon, thats amazing! I love how you went back to ten and one I wondered what they were up to and I wonder if the valyard will hurt the first doctor,if he does or some how kills him and prevents him from regenerating it would destroy all the doctors including the valeyard unless he built some kind of paradox machine for himself.
April 30th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
Get rid of the First Doctor, and all the others just…fade away…Pretty smart, this Valeyard. Kinda dumb, too, considering that he’s, what, the Twelfth-and-a-Half Doctor? Let’s hope he finds a way out for himself. I’d love to see him pop up again on the series.
Keep up the good work!!!!!!!
April 30th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
Loving this! Just the thing to keep me out of a pre-finals depression.
April 30th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
Um, ok, DAMN IT!
We are in sooooo much trouble guys!
April 30th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
[…] The 10 doctors […]
April 30th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
woop! and rich, is this a foreshadowing that the climax is almost on page 100? only 10 more pages before the end… NOO!
April 30th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
Captain Chaotica can I just ask where are you watching those old episdoes? They’ve all been deleted off you tube. Absoloutly fab Rich you shoud be writing for the series and your art work is genious. You should get this published you’d earn millions!
April 30th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
Lord350- check your local library. VHS and DVDs have been made of a lot of classic eps.
April 30th, 2008 at 3:39 pm
***gasp***
Fabby episode, specially love panel 6!!
And I only check by twice a day now!!
Thanks
April 30th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
Whoo! I love you more than chocolate right now…
This has turned out to be a groovy day; new webcomic page, Schroedinger’s Cat perfume from BPAL, and other nice surprises. So I thought I’d give you a nice surprise as well, and share this funny image with you:
http://redplanetblog.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/2007/09/25/loldoctor_dalek.png
April 30th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
The Valeyard looks a little creepy (moreso than usual, I mean). Almost brainwashed…but why?
And the Meddling Monk surviving the Time War? That’s an even scarier concept than the Master getting out alive!
April 30th, 2008 at 6:12 pm
I love the Monk here. He’s totally been channeling the new series, and is all like: “OMB WTH? Dead? ME? Not happening.”
Hmm. Ponderous! Eight gets data. Eight prevents Time War. Eight doesn’t regenerate. Probably goes off and does fun Eight stuff. Doesn’t meet Rose, but she still wouldn’t die because the Nestene Consciousness wouldn’t have invaded Earth thanks to no Time War. She’d probably have a really crappy life. Mickey would never grow a spine and become an awesome action spy hero. Jack would’ve still been a con artist. (I’m assuming that the Time War accounted for the Chula ship, so the Earth’s okay.) No Bad Wolf. No Torchwood. Martha would become a doctor. The Master would still be out of the picture because the Time Lords never revived him. Maybe. He is the Master, after all…
And Donna would either be an intern or sacrificed to the Racnoss. Ouch. Oh yeah! No new series two means that Satan’s still at large, too. Huh.
Is it weird that I imagine Eight going to a bunch of chic clubs and stuff? And maybe a few dressy balls and concerts.
Eventually Eight’d regenerate into…a non-angsty Nine?!? Ack! I wonder if non-angsty Nine would still wear black leather?
April 30th, 2008 at 7:16 pm
Lucky me, just finding this comic now and reading it in one hurried rush of clicking! Your artwork is fantastic, and I thrill at your patience and awesomeness at keeping track of so many storylines at once! So. Much. Love! Keep it up, Rich!
April 30th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
Love the comic, Rich! Hehe, a very interesting mix of the new and classic Who’s. Keep up the good work!
April 30th, 2008 at 7:41 pm
That was fast! Not like I’m complainin’…
Oh, has the plot ever thickened! After “Fires of Pompeii” this hits home. The one thing the Doctor can’t do, and the means to doing it has dropped into his palm.
EEEEEE!
April 30th, 2008 at 7:55 pm
It’s almost like he’s being tested…
April 30th, 2008 at 8:44 pm
Mreen: Yeah…actually I was _wondering_, the whole time I was watching the alternate universe parts of “Inferno”, just where WAS the other copy of Three, anyway?
…and then it occurred to me: In _this_ universe–this much harsher, stricter, less tolerant version of Earth with this dark totalitarian government where they think nothing of torturing a random stranger to get information out of him just because he doesn’t belong there–exactly HOW would they react to a real alien?
…yick.
Let’s just say–without dwelling too much over the gruesome details–that I just kind of assumed the Docctor who was native to the “Inferno” universe didn’t show up because he…couldn’t. Vicious paranoids + non-working TARDIS? Yerk.
On the other hand, that’s ONE way to avoid the “having two totally identical things in the same universe makes everything go flooey because you can’t _add_ matter or energy to a closed universe”, problem… (They seemed to be referencing this, when the Doctor said he couldn’t even _try_ to take any of them back with him. “Don’t you understand? I’d give _anything_ to save you all!” Oh dear…sniff.)
Lordo350: I try not to watch long things on YouTube anyway, since the picture is so small and the quality so poor–it’s not worth it. I normally use YouTube only for things like short humour clips and clever music videos, that kind of thing. Whole episodes? I’d start tearing my hair out after a bit.
Anyway.
…Notorious
April 30th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
Meep! Change the Time War using the Doctor? That is just cruel and unusual. The poor guy’s tore up about enough as it is. Now if he has the ability to change it and for some Time Lord reason can not… *sniffle* Poor Doctor.
I am thoroughly engrossed.
April 30th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
Just found this the other day…this…is…AWESOME!
May 1st, 2008 at 1:12 am
Surely, alla y’all who believe Rich is going to change the Time War haven’t been watching the Russell Davies Era. Since this thing kicked off with Doctor Ten, there’s got to be a magic reset button/”Davies Ex Machina” (”Everyone get down! Spacetime is reversing!”) on about page 371, followed by 29 pages of goodbyes, including Ten not saying anything to Rose but feeling more chipper and ready to save Donna Noble from evil arachnid things.
No problem, as long as everything is battened down properly. Let’s do the Davies again!
I just hope the Valeyard bites the dust in some particularly brutal way; there is absolutely nothing to like about the entire TRIAL OF A TIME LORD mess except for a few brief moments in MYSTERIOUS PLANET when Colin Baker actually understands Robert Holmes’ characterization of the Doctor at a few points in the script. (”Clever, eh? That bit with the umbrella…?” “Now, will you please stop poking me, young man?”)
And now we wait for page 91…
May 1st, 2008 at 1:27 am
Hey Rich….
I don’t visit too often otherwise I get to anxious/antsy but love this…..I think panels 5 & 6 are fantastic…..love the expressopn on 10’s face and you draw him well….esp. his freckles…..am holding out for Master Simm though….will keep commenting every now and then….so that you don’t forget
LOVE IT!
May 1st, 2008 at 3:47 am
Woot! And the plot thickens! I can’t believe i checked this two days after you put this out! That’s two days of wondering what was going to happen! *Hits head*
Ooh, no! The first doctor doesn’t know that isn’t the Keeper…um, is he? I’m not a classic-who watcher…Is this the Keeper that the 8th Doctor met?
That’s just like 10 to toss off his robes and put on his ‘brainy-specs’! Hooray! A speck of happiness on this depressing day! Thank you Rich! This comic always makes me 100x happier! (and makes me hyperventilate to some degree whenever i see the number change. heh, i’m actually beginning to annoy my friend whenever i do that)
May 1st, 2008 at 3:50 am
and on that note, i’m pretty much on the verge of building a shrine for you, Rich. Just like in Fires of Pompeii for those who watched it
lol!
May 1st, 2008 at 8:19 am
horray for updates, thickening plots, and Ten acually looking like Ten!
…nant
yay!!
May 1st, 2008 at 9:00 am
For those that have mentioned ‘Fires of Pompay’ I remind you Ten here is pre Martha and thus no where near that episode yet. We in the US will see that for the first time Tomorrow night.
I understand the alternate universe Rose is trapped? in has no Doctor– I understad RTD has said so. So it is concevible the ‘Inferno’ universe had/has no Doctor Come to think of it there didn’t appear to be an alternate Doctor in E-Space either *(Four). So itv would seem there is only one Doctor in One universe.
May 1st, 2008 at 11:08 am
I came across this comic many moons ago when you were only up to about 10 pages, and although I loved it I somehow forgot about it.
Thanks to a fellow forumer I rediscovered it today, and have read the entire thing over the last couple of hours. I think your Doctor’s and companions are excellent. All instantly recognisable and unique. The storyline is wonderful, and how you’ve managed to tie in so many different characters and classic plotlines is just amazing.
I really don’t want to criticise it at all. The whole comic is just pure genius, and I thankyou for doing it.
My only real criticism is there’s not enough fourth Doctor in it, but with ten incarnations to play with, I guess it must be really hard to give them all equal billing. You sure try your hardest though.
Keep up the good work. I’m guessing the end is in sight, only I’m hoping it’s not to soon!
May 1st, 2008 at 11:10 am
I never quite got the deal with E-space…was it alternate or just….outside? I got the feeling that it was kind of part of _this_ universe, except…not. But like…I dunno. That whole thing was just weird.
…Notorious
May 1st, 2008 at 12:05 pm

E-space was a bit of an oddity, it was described as the part of the universe with negative coordinates I seem to remember, so it was an odd sort of subsection of this one almost subverse as it where. It dosen’t realy hold up to close examination.
On your earlier comment I think that the Time Lords and Gallifrey are unique across parallel universes only existing in the one, so there wasn’t one in the Inferno universe to be exiled to earth. Even if there was a Doctor in that universe I doubt he would be exiled to an earth where he would be killed on arrival, as that would be stupid even for the Time Lords :-). Also the reason the Doctor couldn’t save anybody from the Inferno universe was that he only had the Tardis console with barely enough power to get him and it back home
We also don’t have to worry about versions of the same character from parrallel univeres exploding when they meet, as Mickey and Rickey existed quite happily together. Ok they didn’t explode anyway.!
May 1st, 2008 at 2:10 pm
Yeah, but then Ricky bit it, which reminds me of the “one of the doubles is doomed” rule from Bender’s Big Score.
Also, watch the Donna spoilers for those of us relying on the CBC for our whofix.
May 1st, 2008 at 3:40 pm
Maureen:
“Yeah, but then Ricky bit it, which reminds me of the “one of the doubles is doomed” rule from Bender’s Big Score.”
Fantastic movie, that was. My housemate and I make endless “paradox resolved!” and similar jokes whenever we watch DW now
May 1st, 2008 at 6:46 pm
Oh no! Huge, universe scrambling decisions to be made….I can only hope the Doctor gets through this…all of him. Especially with the Valeyard out and One totally oblivious to the fact of his existence.
May 1st, 2008 at 8:11 pm
Ah, Ten looks so “Ten”….he’s perfect.
Love panel 5, the close up Ten complete with nerd glasses.
You really seem to capture the essence of each incarnation so well!!
May 1st, 2008 at 8:57 pm
“For those that have mentioned ‘Fires of Pompay’ I remind you Ten here is pre Martha and thus no where near that episode yet. We in the US will see that for the first time Tomorrow night.”
None of the new episodes have even been shown here in Canada yet (and CBC is supposed to be a co-producer?!! Darn hockey playoffs).
Anyway, great story. 10 is looking more like himself every time!

Confidentially, just as one shouldn’t underestimate the Daleks, the same could be said for the Valeyard. More than likely, I’d suspect he’s got something a bit more clever than just simply doing away with The Doctor. Paradox upon paradox, and all that, you know.
However, it’d fair more practical if the Valeyard somehow either seizes control of the First Doctor, or holds him hostage, preventing the other Doctors from interfering with whatever he’s got cooking up. Perhaps I’ve been watching Doctor Who too long, or either hanging round the Seventh Doctor too much.
Meanwhile unknown to anyone, my Toon ChronoScope’s had a nasty hiccup and I’m getting an hybrid episode of the original Sabrina animated series, spliced in with The Second Doctor and the Groovie Ghoolies.
Hadn’t had much oddity like this since I tried recording an episode of the First Doctor over an episode of Beetlejuice, and eeriely the conversations actually synched with the episode, you haven’t lived till you’ve heard The First Doctor sound like the ghost-with-the-most.
Great episode, nonetheless, now then I’d better run since I’ve once again snatched the Tenth Doctor’s last slice of cheesecake.
Doctor #10: My cheesecake! [lunges after me] Why you little….
Whoops! TTFN!

this is an amazing thing yr doing, and that yr doing it well makes it even better.

Being a total slave to Tom Baker, the tension in my heart keeps building up whenever there’s a new page and nothing about his “accident”. Curse my obsessive fandom!!
May 2nd, 2008 at 3:26 am
Yes well like i have most always been trying to say you can not really ever no not ever stop the Doctor he is always going to win just because he is the Doctro and know’s what is really going on all of the Time He is the fiinal athority it all stops with him!

Kat-Klingon: “For those that have mentioned ‘Fires of Pompay’ I remind you Ten here is pre Martha and thus no where near that episode yet. We in the US will see that for the first time Tomorrow night.”
Do you mean that you don’t want spoilers? I know that Ten hasn’t even met Martha in the comic, i was just referring to building a shrine like the one at the very end of the episode.
May 2nd, 2008 at 3:34 am
Actually, DW hasn’t shown in this country either, i’ve been watching it off the net…you lucky British and Americans…especially British.
May 2nd, 2008 at 9:13 am
Actually I don’t mind a spoiler or two, but not everyone likes thems. I was just reminding those that have seen ‘volcano day’ that there are others here who haven’t. Rich has edited what he considered a spoiler on onother page. Let’s not stumble into trouble if we can avoid it.:D
May 2nd, 2008 at 11:00 am
As my son and I are both into doctor who and he is into drawing this strip has been a plesant bit of fun.
Having just discovered the Big Finish Productions and having developed a liking to the character Charly Pollard I would have liked to see her in this but that doesn’t fit your continunity, a shame.
One question. To what degree do you have this story already plotted? Is there basically a general direction to a specific ending with twists that you think of to fill as you go along or are you flying from the seat of your pants as it were?
Either way it is quite a bit of fun and a pleasure, thanks muchly. Might want to check with you about an e-mail interview for our company’s blog.
May 2nd, 2008 at 11:15 am
Noticed that Ten is repeating a statement in the last panel, for emphasis..
Does he usually do that on the show?
Hmm never noticed that, will try to keep an ear open..
May 2nd, 2008 at 11:26 am
YAY
Some more Doctor!
Five & Three now Ten! I wondered when the latter would make another appearance.
And One, too!

May 2nd, 2008 at 3:27 pm
Oooh that ending! Dun-dun-dunnnnnn *Dramatic reverb*
Are you gonna have a stab at drawing Gwen and the rest of the Torchwood gang at some point in the future Ruch?
May 2nd, 2008 at 9:17 pm
Yikes. 87 responses. I can’t answer them all, so I’ll stick to answering questions and things.
For a start, I know it’s difficult and seems harmless, but please please please be careful when posting details about episodes people haven’t seen yet.
La Donzella: I don’t know, LD, she got pretty nasty in some episodes when she got unreasonably jealous. I really think her and Ace would quickly have gotten on eachothers’ nerves!
As for the 5th Doctor, I don’t have a hate on for him or any of them. I’ve been playing him as the reasonable one. He calms the others or goads them to action when they start to get wrapped up in themselves. I think it’s a noble position to have. They’ll all get their chances in the spotlight, though. You’ll see.
JustAWanderer: Actually the Valeyard(as the Keeper) appeared earlier in the scene where the 8th Doctor is investigating the time distortions.
Ben: The Valeyard’s eyes are just open real wide as he acts friendly to the 1st Doctor. Not meant to look like a zombie. Sorry bout that. And this is the Monk pre-Time War, he just knows something bad is going to happen and wants the Doctor to save all their asses.
DarthHoob: Hehehe, actually the 4th Doctor is *MY* Doctor. I’m saving him for the coolest segments.
P.Ingemi: I have the whole story figured out, actually. I know how it’s going to end, which Doctors will do what (more or less) and various actions sequences and intereactions. In some cases, actual dialogue is already decided on. However, I have not planned or scripted out everything and most sequences are improvised totally as I draw them. That makes it truely character driven and fresh and exciting. Sometimes the Doctors surprise me and make it impossible for a planned scene to happen, so I have to alter them to fit the current events. It’s quite entertaining. But it does mean that anything I have figured out could change without notice. As has happened a few times already.
The Creeping Spleen: Probably not, Spleen. I’m not a huge fan of Torchwood (in the sense that I haven’t watched more than an episode or two, nor am I likely to have the time, so I have no idea what it’s all about).
This is a Doctor Who fan comic and references to Torchwood will be peripheral only.
Thank you very much for all the kind comments and encouragement! Keep reading! More to come!
May 3rd, 2008 at 1:44 am
Y’know Rich, that’s a lot like how I go about plotting comics too.
May 3rd, 2008 at 3:03 am
When are we going to go back to the 8th doctor,I’m curious what he’s been up to since last we saw him?
May 3rd, 2008 at 7:14 am
Rich, you need an FAQ page, as well as a ‘please don’t post spoilers’ line before the comments start. n___n
May 3rd, 2008 at 8:50 am
i’ve just thought of this if the Valeyard kills the Doctor he’ll never be created to kill the Doctor In The First Place.
May 3rd, 2008 at 12:24 pm
A paradox, a paradox, a most ingenious paradox…HAHAHAHAHAHAHA–A PARADOX!!!
May 3rd, 2008 at 12:36 pm
rich, this is climatic, is the climax at page 100!?
May 3rd, 2008 at 2:51 pm
Hum, now Six and Ten have pieces, but i suspect we are a long way from the climax yet, too many old enimies to wrap this up quick. Shpuld be wonderful to follow though!
May 3rd, 2008 at 9:36 pm
Thank you for another brilliant page. You should write for the real series.
You’ve got a way better plot than RTD has ever come up with.

May 4th, 2008 at 2:19 am
Ten’s expression in the sixth panel is just awesome. And you draw his silly uncombed hair perfectly.
May 4th, 2008 at 5:44 am
I’ve just found this, and read through all 90 episodes in one sitting.
Without a doubt, this is bloody brilliant.
Rich, I imagine that you’re making this up as you go along. Nevertheless, everything seems to be hanging together. That in itself is a truly-incredible achievement. Add to that the quality of the artwork, and the brilliance of the characterisation (the Ace vs Rose bitchiness is sublime)….. why the hell are you doing this for fun?! Seriously, if none of the people who publish Dr Who comics professionally (what is it? Four of them now?) have enquired about this strip so far, then it’s a crying shame.
Mind you, no Jeremy Fitzoliver as yet……
May 4th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
soz, but a paradox machine is needed
May 4th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
A paradox machine is not needed, and please stop multiposting.
I don’t care if it does mean you get the 100th post.
May 4th, 2008 at 7:57 pm
Whoa! Cool new plot twist.
May 5th, 2008 at 9:21 am
Getting more and more intriguign and exciting.
May 5th, 2008 at 10:03 am
I’m loving this webcomic!
Q: What’s up with Valeyard / Keeper? He looks like he was up all night smoking crack.
Q: When are ya gonna put Slitheen in this thing?
Request: I wanna see more Omega!
May 5th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
wow ,
i dont know what to say other than this is brilliant .
i reall enjoy work from a who fan that actually gets it .
and, oh my gods you actually know something about the history of it all .
you capture the personalities of the individual doctors wonderfully , the companions too.
i am very impressed.
i was doing my usual troll through outpost gallifrey when i stumbeled on to a thread about your strip.
i started reading it and just could not stop.
i eagerly await more
May 5th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
it seems to me that this needs a few more masters .
we’veseen at least 6 incarnations on the classic show, tv film and new series mayby more if you follow the theory that the meddeling monk was also an incarnation .
could be an tnteresting plot twist eh?
May 5th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
Or perhaps a comic on the Six NMasters? Some body would like that no doubt, instead of trying to distroy the Doctor they are at each other’s throats??? At least trying to out conquer the others?
May 5th, 2008 at 4:10 pm
But they are terrified of dying and would never want to shorten their lives.. but -on the other hand- the ghoul Master, Anthony Ainley’s, really does not play well with others and took tons of risks with his own physiology trying to extend his life anyway he could. I could see him working against his other incarantions in a more physical way while the others simply wanted to selfishly have all the power NOW, in their own time, which includes bulding up their past selves and stashing stuff for their future to find. They all did love needlessly complicated plots.
Anyhow, FAQ and that sort of thing would be ideal in the forum…. perhaps Rich or Heather might include a link to the forum, 10 Doctors Roundtable, below each page description, as they go on. Then we can have real fan discussions and let things take off.
May 5th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
According to SoD, the ickle first incarnation of the Master had blue eyes, ridiculously long eyelashes that made him look like a girl, and a bowl cut. No wonder he turned evil.
May 5th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
Mreen: Who’s Heather?
May 5th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
Just a quick note: I dig your Monk design.
May 6th, 2008 at 1:39 am
Hitbob: I agree with Rich, one reason the Paradox Machine is right out is because currently the Time Lords would detect it at this period of Gallifrey’s existence and neutralize it before it could be put into operation. In fact, I believe Doctor #10 stated the only reason The Master got away with it was because the Time Lords were no longer in existence, the TARDIS Security measures were now rendered inoperative. Or perhaps it was a dream I had. Sometimes I tend envisioning helping The Doctor with his adventures as my character, Fanger (aka Fangarius).
And if you’ve been reading Rich’s tale, the ones involved don’t exactly want major attention behind them messing with the Universal Timeline (or ChronoSphere, as I denote it). Therefore, a Paradox Machine would not only be pointless, but rather redundant. Let’s give the villains a bit better imagination and more credit.
Rich: Love the Meddling Monk, you genuinely have the character down pat.
Others about the whole “Is The Master the Meddling Monk or not?” Nobody really knows, because when Verity Lambert wrote ‘Doctor Who’ originally, she wanted The Doctor to have a rival. In this case, it was a humourous little man, essentially the opposite of The Doctor.
Not evil, mind you, but sort of like Mr. Mxylptzk is to Superman. More of a time-travelling imp than a villain like The Master. But when The Master was introduced during the Third Doctor’s Season, many presumed the rival was now a darker, warped version of the Monk. Although the writers then denied this, stating the Monk never really caught on with audiences.
Others claim The Master and Doctor were rivals at the Academy, where some claim The Doctor once humiliated The Master from carrying out a dangerous experiment. The Master was also attributed the reason behind The Doctor and Susan leaving Gallifrey. Apparently, he made a botched attempt for overthrowing the High Council which resulted in disaster. (The Onslaught).
Apologies if I’m getting geeky here, I just wanted to bring some input. Still love the story, Rich. In all honesty, you’ve brought back the magic on why we love Doctor Who in the first place. Don’t get me wrong, the new series is okay, but I kind of miss the episodic format it used to have, anticipating what would happen next.
Can’t wait for Page 91 to see what happens next!
May 6th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
I always love to hear about background stuff I’m not familiar with (I’ve never heard of the Onslaught) but I always heard people theorizing about the War Chief as the proto-Master, not the Monk. That’s why I thought it was so great that Rich has them working together. I took it as a definitive statement that, in this comic at least, they are not the same person. I dunno. Maybe I’m reading to much into this.
May 7th, 2008 at 6:04 am
ok, pop along to www.thewhocast.com and you’ll here, contained within the podcast, a nice plug for this comic - its a bit late and the usual download thing is missing, you may have to stream…we had major server problems and well…devastation, lol.
But your plug is in there with links to here in the show notes…
May 7th, 2008 at 6:26 am
Hooray!
Thank you Macfadyan! Going to give that a listen tonight.
As for the Monk or the War Chief being the Master, I never bought into that. Their personas conflict, their histories don’t jive. I’ve presented them in this comic as three seperate individuals.
May 7th, 2008 at 8:08 am
Hilary Says:
May 5th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
Mreen: Who’s Heather?
hehe I daresay he confused me for you, simply because I’ve done a bit of posting on the forum. And both our names start with ‘H’.
Fear not, I’m not about to go steal your man. Though he does have a wonderfully brilliant imagination… *wonders if I can get my own husband to do something like this*.
May 7th, 2008 at 10:36 am
And I thought it would just be mind-blowing to see the Tenth Doctor on Gallifrey! Lord knows I would be amazed to be walking around in my childhood home, which like Gallifrey, is demolished. To stand in a place you know is no more- all it’s constituant molecules hopelessly reorganized into other places. Even having every atom back could not make the same home if you could glue all the pieces together again in the right order. Something would be missing…and as you walk astounded through this impossibility agog, the surreal truth would be that you would be wondering what the price of such a gift would be. What would you be willing to do to keep it? And would you really be sure you hadn’t dropped into an insane delusion because of your longing? How could you guarantee that it wouldn’t shimmer back into those pieces you thought you successfully brought together? I don’t know, Rich, but you’ve got me thinking about it with that one panel of his realization.
I
May 7th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
Congrats Rich, you have been mentioned on 2 podcasts that I know of GeekSyndicate and DWO Whocast have both given high praise to your endeavour. Keep up the excelent work.
May 7th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
You’ll make the big leagues yet, my friend. Word of your talents seem to be spreading like Dragonfire.
May 7th, 2008 at 6:02 pm
Yes, I was posting on a thread, back and forth with Heather in the Ten Doctors Roundtable, and managed to mix up Hilary and Heather. I tend to do that sort of thing, which is why I regret the lack of edit function
May 8th, 2008 at 12:22 am
Rich, I just want you to know that you’re killing me over here. I keep checking back to your website 2-3 times a day just to see if you updated. Arghh!!
LoL. I’m not mad I swear, its just that I love your work so much that I just really want an update. Please?
May 8th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
Will we find out why all timelords except the Master, Rani, And Meddling Monk recognise the Doctor Out of their timestreams
May 8th, 2008 at 3:32 pm
Zidel333: I think we all do that…
May 8th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
wow another great update.
but are you going to add the new Daleks, new Cybermen, new Sontarons, New autons, Roger Delgado, Peter Pratt, Geoffrey Beevers, Anthony Ainley, Gordon Tipple, Eric Roberts, Derek Jacobi
John Simms masters, the sycarak or the deamons, the ood, or the raxicorocfaltoritopions?
May 8th, 2008 at 5:53 pm
I just love your comics!!! Where did you learn to draw like that or is it natural?
May 8th, 2008 at 7:59 pm
Just to answer a few questions here…
Yes, there is a page coming. I’ve got the new pages started, I just have to steal some time to finish it.
Jim, you’ll find that most of the Time Lords DON’T recognize the Doctor out of his time stream, and the Time Lords in question, DO. And yes, ultimately, this will be explained.
42: Will I be adding all those characters and monsters? Well, I can’t add everything. Simply put, I’m satisfying myself with a reasonably impressive cross section of the series, and when I created the story there were no new Sontarans. And in my mind there is no difference betwee the new and old Sontarans or Autons. I could bring in a dozen different incarnations of the Master, but that would make this already incredibly complicated plot much more so.
And I absolutely refuse to acknowledge the raxicoricofalipatorians. The farting episode really irked me. Still haven’t forgiven them for that.
Mrs. Dalek: I have enjoyed drawing ever since I was very small, though personally I don’t think I was as good as my chief supporters said. I went to Sheridan School of the Arts in Ontario Canada for three years learning Classical Animation. I have been drawing professionally ever since -about 16 years (which is how I got to the point I’m at, I think. Still not my own ideal, but enough that I can enjoy posting my doodles to share.)
May 8th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Fangarius: “Others claim The Master and Doctor were rivals at the Academy, where some claim The Doctor once humiliated The Master from carrying out a dangerous experiment. The Master was also attributed the reason behind The Doctor and Susan leaving Gallifrey.”
I think you may have a plot for a new comic there!
May 9th, 2008 at 12:04 am
If you watch the rest of the Sarah Jane Adventures, you will be pleased with changes in one alien. I wont spoil you by naming which one, but lets just say the series improves dramatically over the course of 10 little eps.
As for including aliens from the new series, as the Doctor didnt recognize any of the new ones, it’s likely that of all the thousands of species he has met, there are thousands more he hasnt yet. He hadnt met the new ones before the time war, so it’s logical that they dont appear in the comic.
May 9th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
Hi,
I’ve just gone through and read every single page of this comic and, quite frankly, it’s Fantastic! Love it all, keep it up please!
May 9th, 2008 at 5:11 pm
Hi
loving it so far
when is the next page coming ???
how many left ???
May 9th, 2008 at 5:16 pm
I just discovered this, and let me say, “AAARRRGGGHHH!!” It’s fraking brilliant, and you’ve created another addiction. {sigh} oh well, I’ll just have to add it to the pile. Keep up the good work!
May 9th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
NO! NO SLITHEEN! It ALWAYS turns out badly.
May 9th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
Doctor-Who-Fan…As the mighty Gorpo (Rich) has said. He’s working on them as we speak. And will post as soon as it’s done. As for how many left. I’m guessing quite a few. Still to many threads left hanging.
May 9th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
Rich: I like the Sheridan props. XD
May 9th, 2008 at 10:17 pm
I have to agree with Captain Shade, There are much to many threads to weave together — and too many possible Head villians that started this — to see the end any time soon.
For anyone interested, I’ve noticed Rich generally posts a new page two to three weeks apart.
May 9th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
I’m gonna agree with Captain Shade and Kat-Klingon, too. We’ve only just now figured out what the big evil plot is. We still don’t know who’s pulling the strings, or why they’ve dragged all the other baddies into this. I forsee a good few pages yet before we near the ending.
…Which I think is all to the good. I love stuff I can sink my teeth into.
May 10th, 2008 at 9:09 am

May 11th, 2008 at 6:06 am
Forgive me fro being soo talktitive but i really wish to see a new page.
May 11th, 2008 at 6:32 am
Rich, just one question: WHEN R U GOING TO REGENERATE IN COLOUR??!! ( i dont mean to shout)
May 11th, 2008 at 11:13 am
So Rich, now that we have the actual plot revealed, does this mean we are finished with the introduction of new characters? Which would be too bad since I catching “The Doctor’s Daughte”r last night it would be so perfect to have Number 5 and Jenny run into each other…
May 11th, 2008 at 11:28 am
Levanta T.: Sorry Levanta. You’ll have to wait like everyone else. I have not forgotten anyone.
Hark: Please please please don’t multipost like this. Try to say everything you have to say in one go. Thanks for the comliments. As for taking requests, the story’s already set. You’ll just have to wait and see who shows up. As for the Slitheen, though, I hate them. You won’t be seeing them.
Now as for when I’m going to “regenerate in colour”. IT AIN’T GONNA HAPPEN ANYTIME SOON! I don’t have time to ink and colour all these pages (as I’ve stated time and again). If I went back now and started doing it you’d probably never seen any new pages. Look back at the fist few pages, there is someone who’s started it. Enjoy those.
Jay042: Not necessarily. And I, like a lot of other readers, haven’t seen “The Doctor’s Daughter” yet. So please don’t be talking about it or any of the characters involved just yet. Thanks!
May 11th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
BEST one yet.
May 11th, 2008 at 6:02 pm
Just got caught up on the story.
Brilliant, simply brilliant. Having a great time reliving a lot of great Doctor Who memories. Thanks!!
Can’t wait to see more of this.
May 11th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
I’ve just read this whole thing true and it’s absolutely astounding! You nail every face, every character, perfectly! As each companion appeared I got more and more excited…when you got to Grace, Martha and Jack all within a few pages, I almost leapt out of my seat! Haha, all I want to see now is Donna and I’ll die happy…
I’m going to recommend you to everyone who reads my livejournal. This comic is quite a find and I think even more people should enjoy it!
May 11th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
Srry ididn’t mean to. Wat about donna?
May 12th, 2008 at 5:54 am
Not sure if Donna would work terribly well in Rich’s comic. Rich tends to take one or two key characteristics of each character and exagerate them a bit - that’s how he accomodates the huge cast and generates so much comedy.
Russell Davies (Doctor Who chief writer) is doing the opposite to Donna - she started out as a comedy cutout in the ‘Runaway Bride’ episode and is being rehabilitated into a proper, sympathetic character.
May 12th, 2008 at 12:01 pm
May 12th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
Wow, I mean I’ve see the first page to this comic before but I never knew it had blown into such a huge scale project, A-maz-ing!
I will be watching with deep interest.
May 12th, 2008 at 5:29 pm
Not that those that post requests will notice, but, an artist, no matter his form, is an artist for the ideas that he or she fathoms in their own mind, even weird al gets inundated for requests to do parodies, but he like our Rich, has his own idea’s and interests, soon as you start taking everyone elses requests, the subject of the artist is no longer his own….
please, be patient, and enjoy.
May 12th, 2008 at 6:04 pm
Rich: You’re right about attempting some odd connection with the War Chief and Monk as The Master. Mainly I never really bought into it as well, because first off, the Monk’s persona is far too abstract than The Master’s.
(And YES, Ten Doctors’ Gallery, I KNOW some of The Doctor’s Incarnates have conflicting personas, but I’m making more of an essential point here, so bear with me.)
The War Chief never could be for the sheer fact I suspect he was supposedly condemned to death by the Time Lords. (Keyword is ’supposedly,’ since I never got to really watch The War Games in its entirety.) And though we know The Master has wriggled out of sticky situations (Time and Time again), The War Chief apparently possesses a bit more patience than our Master.
And I agree with Gecks, guys, though it’s nice to request things of Rich, bear in mind, this is his tale he wishes sharing with us and we should enjoy the ride rather than force him in making unexpected stops.
May 12th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
Another exciting page! This is getting really intense, I can’t wait for the next one.
And glad to hear there won’t be any Slitheen appearences; to be honest, I’m not too fond of them either. Although, admittedly, they work quite well for the stories and audiences of the Sarah Jane Adventures.
Dr. Bunsen: Rich can make any character work well, he’s a comic genius. If he included her, I’m sure she’d be fantastic. But it’s his comic, so we’ll just have to seee. And, to be fair to Donna, she was both funny AND had plenty of character developement in “The Runaway Bride,” just like in the new series. She was a “proper” character right from the start, with more than just “sympathy” in her personality. I love her, in case you can’t tell. XD
May 13th, 2008 at 3:30 pm
as usual my bye bye has ghone. so heres me bye message: I quit coz rich is a assuming idiot who dosnt actually think before guessing, and this comic is screwed from the start
