The 10 Doctors - Page 88

Sarah Jane engages in that age-old fruitless passtime of arguing with hostpital procedure and protocol.  Captain Jack listens in and discovers (Thanks to Jamie’s explanation and lack of discretion) that Romana is, in fact, a Time Lord.  He gets into an argument with Sarah Jane over the irrisponsibility of putting a Time Lord at the mercy of modern Earth medicine, but before it can be resolved, Romana steps out, apparently recovered and quite well, a thoroughly embarrassed Grace Holloway behind her.

  1. Chris Says:

    Heh, loving the expression on Grace’s face in the last two panels!

  2. spookette Says:

    Oh, I knew Romana would be understanding. :D

  3. Captain Shade Says:

    Fred…I love it…Welcome bach Rich. And wonderful update

  4. Rich Says:

    Thank you! :D

  5. xanderchan Says:

    Spelled F-R-E-D … I fell out of my chair laughing. You captured her sense of humour amazingly well, it was like I was watching City of Death again :)

    Not to be nitpicky, but its RomanadvoratRElundar… okay, that’s the first and last time I’ll gripe spelling I promise.

  6. AmarilloMike Says:

    Whooo, update! loving it..

    don’t leave us hanging so long this time!

  7. ch1ps Says:

    Hooray! An update! So many good things are happening today! I love everyone’s expressions! Excellent, Rich! Sarah Jane looks a bit like the 8th Doctor in the second and last panel…

    Once again eagerly awaiting your next update!

  8. TehCracker Says:

    Ok, first time commenting. Been lurking for awhile and I completely adore your comic.

    This is great, I love the expressions. Jack’s surprise when Jamie mentions the Doctor, Jamie’s confusion when Jack disappears, Grace’s blush. And Jack and Sarah Jane arguing. Romana as well. Oh, so brilliant.

    This is just so amazing, thank you!

  9. ACEOFWANDS Says:

    Yay! Romana’s OK. Can we check on Four now? ;)

  10. Evie Says:

    *checks site one last time before bed*
    New comic! *happy dance*

    Great Jamie moment, explaining the Doctor while reading the paper. And poor Grace!

  11. Os Says:

    No, no, no, Ace of Wands! Let’s go back to Nine and Drax!

    Thanks for the new page, Rich. Deep in the throes of Ood-dom with the new series running, i now check this page religiously. You go, dude!

  12. Nick Says:

    Yeah, I thought Romana would have let that kiss slide. And Sarah Jane seems mighty exasperated over Time Lords, but considering she’s traveled with two incarnations of the same one, I can understand why. Great update!

  13. Gecks Says:

    Beams from ear to ear,thus putting the sun itselfto shame, and celebrates new page, Graceland style, ooh let it be hoo haa! thank you very much.

  14. Sailorgreeny Says:

    Oh! Update. I check at least once a day when I first get up. I’m glade to see Romana up and now Jack knows about Romana. I also like the Fred comment.

  15. Megalomaniac Says:

    Awsome. And I love the newspaper - eee, mini Dalek! :D

  16. Sean Says:

    See, this is why Romana is my favorite companion! She’s such a nice person! So understanding!

    Romana: You thought I was the Doctor? …. Oh, well, I can see where you’d make that mistake. You’ve only ever met one Time Lord…. Oh now, no need to be like that. I appreciate it. Really… Yes…. No, you were quite good, actually! I can see why he liked you!

  17. Vroom Socko Says:

    I don’t know which is better: the three panel run of “The Doctor” sinking into Captain Jack’s head, or the absolutley priceless look on Grace’s face.

    And yes, I too laughed at the “Fred” line.

  18. rumleech Says:

    Romana doesn’t seem too phased by her brush with an alternative lifestyle does she? Welcome back to the pencil, Rich.

  19. Slartibartfast Says:

    Brilliant. Makes RTD look like he still writes for Why Don’t You?

  20. Jay Says:

    Was kind of wondering when the next page would come about!?

    Hmmm!

    And not a moment to soon!

    I knew that it would come togetehr in bits and pieces As it usually does with anthing concerning the Doctor and most all other time lords and ladies.

    Please keep it going for quite sometime to come And we will see where it just might go before it might ever end if that is at all possible with the Doctor!

  21. Wildcat Says:

    Gotta love Jamie’s reading material… Weekly World News? Perfect! :D

    Wildcat

  22. Waterfall Says:

    Aaaww! Poor Grace! :~D

  23. Heather Says:

    Great to know you aren’t dead, Rich. I was beginning to wonder. ;) You’ve captured some wonderful dynamics in this page, weaving those various threads of conversation in and around each other. There are so many good moments in there, but I have to say my favourite is that teeny-tiny Sarah Jane in the background rolling her eyes. I can absolutely hear the note of frustration in her voice. Time Lords, indeed. :)

  24. Macfadyan Says:

    been reading the strip for quite a while now…I must admit, I’m hoping someone else as talented will step up and offer to ink and colour all the pages :) But as it is its great.

    BTW…is it me, or is that the bottom of the word ‘Wolf’ behind jack? Apt considering when Rose is from in this…..

  25. Dr. Bunsen Says:

    Welcome back Rich!

    Jack with the raised eyebrow is very effective - I can see John Barrowman there.

  26. Kat-Klingon Says:

    Ah Romana Awakes!

    Your only a little later then usual, Rich, but this is keeping a lot of us from Doctor Who withdrawls between series and even between episodes.

    Nice to see Sarah Jane can handle Jack, the Doctor would, Will? be proud.

    I’ve got to get Some of PT’s episodes so I can watch Two and jamie’s interaction, been focusing on Seven’s. Not enough of his stuff on DVD.

    Keep up the Good work!

  27. Melanie Says:

    Awesome, awesome, awesome! You just get everything right!

  28. Burning Says:

    So many good things. Jamie’s casual “Oh aye,” Jack’s boggle moment, “spelled F-R-E-D,” Grace’s acute embarassment, topped off with an exasperated “Time Lords” from Sarah Jane.

  29. shikotee Says:

    One word - Fantastic!

    Stumbled onto your site a few days ago, gobbled it up immediately, then felt remorse as there was no more!

    Keep up the good work!

  30. Jim Says:

    Nick, Sarah Jane Has Travelled With Three Different Incarnations (3,4, and 10… She stepped inside the tardis so that Automatically counts) and Sarah Jane has Met 8 Different Incarnations of the Doctor.

  31. Jim Says:

    oh, and One Final Question WHERE THE HELL IS K9MKIV!!!!!!! HOW DARE YOU LEAVE HIM OUT, HE’S NEVER SEEN A HOSPITAL BEFORE, Or is he in the Car outside

  32. Stef Says:

    Update! Hooray!

    I love this page. Jamie and Jack just PWN, Romana is her usual Time Lady (loved Sarah Jane’s exasperation), and Grace is hilarious looking so embarrassed.

  33. Stef Says:

    I meant Time Lady ’self’, not just Time Lady.

    Typos are the bane of my existance.

  34. ClockKing Says:

    Hey there I loved your comic,I am archiving each page so I will have the comic for all time and I loved this page,it was the most fantastic so far! Can we please check on the 3rd and 5th doctor?

  35. Mreen Says:

    Great! Glad to have a new page - the Weekly World News covering the ship from Aliens of London and the Daleks cracked me up - still trying to make out the hospital warning sign, but I love how whatever it is, causes “incurable Death!”

  36. Paul Says:

    If this ever gets inked and made into an actual for-sale comic, I would buy it in a New York minute. This is absolutely fantastic.

  37. me, myself Says:

    If I’d checked this last night, it would have made the perfect birthday present. Whatever. i love Grace’s expression. but I do want to know what happened to poor K9MKIV

  38. Lawrie Says:

    Oh, lovely, lovely. Especially the Fred bit. Deep down inside, I’ve always wished the 4th Doctor had actually called her that.

    Great character interactions. I’m interested to see what Jack will do now that he knows the Doctor is involved.

  39. Ryan Says:

    Just discovered this and have to say that it is truly superb. A multi-Doctor story with so much…

    Truly, truly fantastic. It’s criminal that relatively few people will see it.

  40. JustAWanderer Says:

    Today was already shaping up to be a good day. A new “Ten Doctors” page turned a good day into a great day!

  41. La Donzella Says:

    uhm, Hi Rich! (..and wife! XD)
    So, here I am finally leaving a proper first feedback. Around December I started following your comic and I must tell you at fist it made me “just” giggle ’cause I didn’t saw the classic era nor knew anything about it, then you made me want to see it.. and TA-DA! Here I am laughing my head off four months later understanding most of the well-constructed jokes & references!

    Man, the effort you put in it.. is really refreshing! The Style cartoonish/real fits perfectly, me like it a lot! :P plenty of cliffhangers, humor, baddies, and arguing doctors.. I could not ask for more! It’s just perfect as it is. Yes, there are a few weak points (nothing is really perfectperfect! XD) but I don’t care, they’re not important in my book ô_o If I were in you, I could have fainted just thinking about the interaction of ALL those characters! O_O That’s why you’re probably a genious! XD That’s it, now I’m shutting up. Stop. The End.

    One more thing (have to say this eh) english isn’t my first language, I can understand it but.. can’t write it very well so I’m sorry if I killed your native tongue by reviewing this! :P

    (really) The End. XD

    Salutes, La Donzella.

  42. schlechter_wolf Says:

    Just put a link to this masterpiece on the Digital Spy “Doctor Who and Torchwood” forum. The more people who see it the better, it is absolutely brilliant!

  43. P:SI #138 "It’s All A Big Stew" | Project: Shadow Says:

    […] Doctor Who: The Ten Doctors […]

  44. Chris Says:

    Poor Grace. Hard to recover from that. Also, Romana looks completely recovered. That must have been one heckuva kiss.

  45. NicolaJo666 Says:

    yusss! brilliant update. like the embarrased Grace :D

  46. Spiral Says:

    XD Poor Grace’s face (even though Romana liked it ;D)

    Aw little Jack’s face lit up like a Christmas tree at the mention of the doctor. 8D Does this mean they’re heading for the hub at some point?

  47. Levanta T. Says:

    YES!!!! It’s back!! Really good page. Romana(dvoratrelundar)’s so nice about that! :D How does Jack know about the telemovie? Did Nine or Ten (what I call them all the time now…) tell him?

    ~~~~~
  48. MarcoNC Says:
    Well I can’t stand it any longer. I have to comment. This started out great and just keeps getting better, I don’t know how you do it! Poor Grace, I totally cracked up on that!! And Fred takes it all in stride as she would.
    One thing, I keep trying to subscribe but it just opens up a list of junk code. Am I doing something wrong? If I know I’ll get a notice of a new page, I won’t be checking 3 times a day er…. week. Like I am now.
    Thanks so much for all you do.
  49. Turnip Says:
    Macfadyan: Holy cow, you’re right. o_o And that thing that comes before it looks suspiciously like ‘bad.’
    That’s two sightings…hmm…
    I doubt the Doctor told Jack about his eighth self, but since Jack is in Torchwood he has information about most of the Doctors, probably. Crazy stalkers that they are, after all. Plus since he’s been around since… the 1800s? I forget exactly, but there’s every chance that he’s seen a few of them running about various time periods. The Doctor gets around.
  50. Vicki Says:
    yay, an update! and everything is coming together! huzzah!
  51. Aynisha Says:
    Aha, I love Jack’s reaction. :D And, despite being completely unfamiliar with Old School Who (something I promise to remedy ASAP …), I am now filled with Romana love.
  52. joe england Says:
    Hooray! Grace is coming along, this time! Lookit her, all embarrassed like that, shesho kyoot.
  53. Megan Says:
    Oh yes, wonderful, you’re absolutely lovely Romana, Spelled F-R-E-D. XD
  54. Hitbob Says:
    romana liked it… shes lesbo!?
  55. Hitbob Says:
    wheres my grava dude?
  56. Hitbob Says:
    wait… shes fred. shes male, not lesbo. it works out, since she is a distorted male shes straight.
  57. Captain Shade Says:
    Ok…It’s been a day…Whens the next update, already…LOL. You really should write in the big leagues.
  58. Chris Says:
    There’s some brilliant Characterization in this. I love Jacks Say what??? moment in the 4th Panel and Sarah Janes ‘Time lords!’ comment while rolling her eyes is great. Good to also see Romana back on her feet. She was always one of my favourite companions.
  59. Peter Says:
    Bravo, Rich, Bravo! I thought for a while that Romana’s reaction to the kiss would be a combo of shock and indignation, but you got it right; Time Lords like to take dangerous and unexpected situations in stride, almost like they’re just plain oblivious. Bottom line, funny as all hell!
  60. herk Says:
    OMG Finqally you are back :)
    And I don’t know, which I love more:
    The ’spelled F-R-E-D’ commentary,
    Grace’s slight flush,
    Jack’s shock
    or
    Jamie’s absolute ignorance of the same or the importance or anything,
    I guess it’s the last since it’s just so Jamie the ‘can’t do anything right now, relax until that changes’ attitude.
  61. Leah Masterson Says:
    I LOVE Romana. And Jack’s reaction was priceless.
    Haha, poor Grace. She won’t be getting over that one any time soon, even with Romana being as lovely as she is.
  62. Lily Knotwise Says:
    Oh my god, Grace is adorable! So is Romana, now that I think of it. But I love Sarah in the last panel. :D That poor doctor though, she must be so confused. Although she didn’t really look it… :P
  63. joe england Says:
    Y’know, if this is all resolved and the time line is set back on track, it strikes me that the ending will be bittersweet since we know that (probably) Romana and all the other Time Lords are doomed. It’s all the more tragic since they’re working characters, part of this story, and it’s fun to have them back for a while. To think that we have them back only to lose them again is unavoidably sad, and surely a bitter pill for Nine and Ten to have to swallow.
    It also strikes me as weird that the First Doctor seems more unsettled by his future reputation than by the revelation that his entire race may be destined for apocalypse. But then, he was never one to sweat the small stuff…
  64. ch1ps Says:
    heh, still cracking up at Sarah Jane’s reaction and Captain Jack’s “what?!” look and the whole page in general. We all ought to spread this to the world in every Doctor Who forum we can find, lol! ROFL!
    Will Donna be appearing in this, despite the fact the Doctor just left her?
  65. Kris Says:
    Wonderful wonderful stuff! Gads if this were only possible to make as an actual show - or perhaps an animated Time Wars. Boy am I glad I ran across this site - please don’t stop!
  66. ch1ps Says:
    oh, i think if this is all resolved eventually, everyone probably won’t remember what happened because it wasn’t supposed to happen…well, except the Doctor maybe since he can see what MIGHT happen…
  67. Rich Says:
    xanderchan: :D Excellent, thank you. Sorry about the chair thing. Hope you’re feeling better. As for Romana’s full name, it depends on your source. And listen to her pronounce it in “The Ribos Operation”. I could well be wrong, but it sounds like an N instead of an R to me. Bear in mind, however, I don’t have my resource material on hand when I draw these things.
    AmarilloMike: I’ll try! Glad you’re enjoying it.
    ch1ps: Yeah, don’t tell anyone, but my characters are actually all very similar. You recognize them by context more than by my skill.
    TehCracker: Welcome, lurker! Thank YOU! Without comments like yours, this thing could have just fizzled ages ago. The encouragement feeds my enthusiasm.
    ACEOFWANDS: Patience, patience… all will be revealed in time.
    Evie: Hehehehe, yeah, poor Grace indeed.
    Os: All will be… ah, you know the drill. You’re welcome, and thank you for sticking by me in the lean times.
    Nick: Ayup. How many times has the Doctor pulled the whole “at-death’s-door-sudden-full-unexplained-recovery” bit?
    Thanks!
    Gecks: *puts on sunglasses and smiles back* Thanks!
    Sailorgreeny: :D
    Megalomaniac: Heheheh, thanks!
    Sean: She is. Very kind indeed. Hehehehehe, nice.
    Vroom Socko: It was a good defining moment for Romana, I think.
    rumleech: Nah, she’s cool with it. In my fanworld, Time Lords are above that sort of thing in all it’s forms it’s just… quaint.
    Slartibartfast: “Why Don’t You?” Is that a TV show or something?
    Jay: Tadaaaah! I’m working on keeping it going for a while.
    Wildcat: Heheheh, good catch!
    Gold star for you!
    Waterfall: Yeah, that’s a little awkward, eh?
    Heather: Nope not dead. Just real busy-like. Thank you! Yeah, Sarah-Jane, of all the companions, has the most to roll her eyes about, I think.
    Macfadyan: I’ve got someone inking it. She’s very talented indeed! (Must remember to update the coloured versions somehow…)
    Wolf? Dooo de doooo….
    Gold star!
    Dr.Bunsen: Thank you! That’s a compliment indeed!
    Kat-Klingon: Sorry about the wait on this one. Lots going on. If you’re referring to Patrick Troughton’s stuff, yeah, there’s not enough of that still in existance. And it’s a cryin’ shame. Thank you!
    Melanie: *blush* Thanks!
    Burning: Yay! Thank you!
    shikotee: I’ll try to keep it good!
    Jim: Yeah, she’s seen the 1st and 2nd Doctors in “The Five Doctors”, joined the cast with the 3rd Doctor in “The Time Warrior”, witnessed the regeneration into the 4th Doctor in “Planet of the Spiders”/”Robot”, met the 5th Doctor in “The Five Doctors”, was involved in “Dimensions in Time”, though whether that was really the character or a temporally distorted Ace is hard to say, and finally bumped into the 10th Doctor in “School Reunion”. That makes 6 of them. Who else?
    Jim: K9 is the hell in the car. He’s a bit of a hindrance to carry around and explain all over the place.
    Stef: Yay! Thank you!
    Stef: It happens. No worries.
    ClockKing: Thank you! That’s very kind! As for the 3rd and 5th Doctors, yes we will rejoin them. When it is dramatically appropriate.
    Mreen: Thank you! “Aliens of London”! Nice catch.
    Gold star. Heheh, the posters on the billboard refer to a disease mentioned in the 6th Doctor radio drama “Slipback” where he is trying to prevent the spread of a disease called “The Incurable Death.” The actual term for it is something I wasn’t able to remember clearly or even make out properly, but it sounds something like “Mausia Metacarbolis”. I kept the text hard to read on purpose.
    The other one warns against the dangers of “Spectrox Toxemia” from the 5th Doctor episode “The Caves of Androzani.”
    Paul: Thank you! Someday maybe.
    me,myself: Aw, happy birthday me! Poor K9 was left in the car. It’s just easier that way for all concerned.
    Lawrie: Heheheh, that’d have been a hoot, eh? Thank you.
    Ryan: Thank you sir! Thank you very much! I guess you just gotta spread the word for me! Paul Cornell himself has stopped by and had a peek! So you never know who will be reading it.
    JustAWanderer: Awww! Thank you!
    La Donzella: Hi there! Wow! I’m glad I was able to encourage appreciation of the Classic series! You’re too kind!
    Weak points, eh? I’d love to hear your critique, really. What parts do you not like? Personally I’m not too fond of the bit where the 9th Doctor freaks out and goes after the Rani. But I needed to blow up some of the TARDISes. I may rework that part someday.
    Keeping track of everything isn’t as hard as it sounds, actually. But it may not be a sign of genius so much as insanity. It’s a fine line, they say.
    You’re English is FINE! You’re certainly easier to understand than a lot of English speakers I know! Thank you for dropping a line!
    schlechter: Oooo! A new link! Thank you! *bows*
    Chris: Well, y’know, it can be a real jolt!
    NicolaJo666: Thank you!
    Spiral: The hub?
    Levanta T: The telemovie? What makes you think Jack knows about that?
    MarcoNC: Eep! Code problem? I don’t know how to help you! Sorry.
    Turnip: :D Maaaaybe. What makes you think Jack knows about the 8th Doctor at all? *rereads own strip*
    Vicki: Harrah!
    Aynisha: Yeah, Romana is teh awsome. She’s one of my all time favorites. Especially in her 2nd incarnation.
    joe england: Yeah, sheesh a little ashamed.
    Megan: Hahahah, ayup.
    Hitbob: ….
    Hitbob: Missing. Had to make some adjustments because of a server issue.
    Hitbob: ….. How do you sleep at night?
    Niptica Dashe: Heheheh, wiseass. I’m workin’ on it. The big league, eh? I wish.
    Chris: Thank you!
    Peter: :D Yeah, she’d have smiled it off.
    herk: Thank you!
    Leah Masterson: Heheheheh, yeah, sometime we’re our own worst enemies.
    Lily Knotwise: Oh, she’s confused all right.
    joe england: Hahahah, interesting, but true. How he conducts himself is less important than the universe around him.
    ch1ps: Donna? Hmm. We’ll have to wait and see. And please do spread the word! I love sharing this with those who’d get some enjoyment out of it.
    Kris: Thank you! I promise I’ll try not to.
    ch1ps: :D We’ll seeeee….
  68. Cate Says:
    Wonderful…..perfection with a capial “P”
    Thank you so much…..I’m a “Classic” and a “New” Who fan and you’ve got it down pat…..Jack was priceless…..as was Jamie and SJ….love it…love it….LOVE IT!!!!
  69. Cate Says:
    I want to see more of 10th please….there’s not enough and also….any chance of John Simm’s Master appearing? Pretty Please
  70. Rich Says:
    Thankyou!
    I can’t really say at this point whether he will appear or not. You’ll have to wait and seeeeee… :D
  71. ScaledMystic Says:
    Hmmmm now this really makes me want to check out the old episodes with Romana.
    I second the notion, if this story ever gets published in the world of paper and ink, I would buy it in a heartbeat.
  72. Jonn Wolfe Says:
    Love the update! =)
    Rich: The Hub = Torchwood Three in Cardiff, where the show Torchwood is based. And I have to disagree with involving the rest of the team, unless this is supposed to be completely out of context with the show. None of the team have met any companions except Jack and Martha. And since this had Martha before she met the Doctor, then we’d have a universe implosion or something. ;)
  73. Dave Says:
    Very nice. I was half living in fear that you’d cut to some other part of the story before letting us know what happened after the kiss, which I totally agree that Romana 2 would have been very understanding about. That said, I am curious how Romana 1 might have handled it so can we please have her show up as well? :D
    Would LOVE to see the Romanas not getting along with each other, just like the various Doctors do, and I doubt I’m alone. Anyway, another great panel. Thanks much. :)
  74. Jonn Wolfe Says:
    hahahahah I can see it now…
    R1: You let her kiss you?
    R2: It was nice, but it was nothing. She thought I was the Doctor.
    R1: And that’s supposed to make it better!?
  75. Captain Shade Says:
    My opinion is there is no NuWho…They just brought the original back from an over-long hiatis (sp?).
  76. The Creeping Spleen Says:
    Bravo maestro, bravo!
    Love poor Grace’s expression and Sarah Janes rolled eyes and muttered “Time Lords…” - priceless! :D
  77. Tom Says:
    “Yeah, okay…”
    I can hear the embarrassment and child-like tone of her voice. I don’t know why, but that line made me laugh incredibly hard. Brilliant stuff. I’m sure this question has been asked and answered before, but
    I couldn’t find it: Did you have a detailed outline of this story or are you making it up as you go along. I’m guessing you have a pretty good idea of where everything is heading, because it works so well.
  78. DrkFire666 Says:
    Bloody mortified she is. At least she’s a good kisser, “It was nice”, HAHAHAHA!!!!
  79. Levanta T. Says:
    OK. Jack would have to know about the events of the telemovie to know what happened when the Doctor was in an ordinary hospital. Also-
    1. Behind Jack, that says Wolf. Like Bad Wolf.
    2. Incurable death- if you can cure death in their time, that’s cool:) LOL
    ~~~~

  80. Macfadyan Says:

    Hmm…I think it’s time this strip got a bit of advertising…expect to be mentioned on the DWO Whocast, number 68 (providing I remember, LOL)

  81. Kat-Klingon Says:

    Dave,

    If Rich had put both Romanas in at first you could have had your wish with no problems. But to bring Romana I in this late — if it’s not already planned –would cause a Universe implosion in all probability! This is aside from Rich having to find a way to explain it, the man has a complicated enough story to deal with.

    Actually Rich. Seven — that Cunning Wolf he was at the end — is my fave with Three a close second. I’ve seen so many references to Two and Jamie being such a good team I’ve just gotten curious. I’ve almost decided to get Hartnell’s ‘The Aztecs — it’s on DVD — just because of something I found in a reference guide.

  82. dgembadgemba Says:

    Genius - Pure Genius

    One question though

    WHENS THE NEXT INSTALLMENT :D

  83. Maureen MacDonald Says:

    Someone’s already said everything I was thinking about this but one: you draw Jack’s coat very well. Mmm. Distractingly well.

  84. Sean Says:

    You know, I just noticed this…

    Romana seems to be wearing a variation on the Third Doctor’s frilly shirt.

  85. Other Chris Says:

    You’re back! yay!!! I love these scenes, with just the companions talking about the Doctor, especially Jack. Somehow he’s just got that super-comeduic element that blends perfectly with his seriousnmess. (Love that boggle-eyed expression.)

    Grace is extremely embarrassed, and Romana, like the heightened-level intelligence she is, doesn’t much care. Now when Jack asks what she’s talking about, that’s when things get really hairy…

    I can just picture the hospital’s clerk going over the dischrges: “fred? Who’s Fred?” “Oh, no-one. Just some crazy lady with two hearts and an American girlfriend.”

  86. schlechter_wolf Says:

    Have a look at the feedback you’re getting! Some of the Digital Spy mob want the BBC to get you to replace Russell T. Davies!

  87. Captain Shade Says:

    See…I told ya you were good enough for the big leagues…Long live the Gorpo!

  88. Other Chris Says:

    Sorry…that previous statement was Typo City.

  89. KelinciHutan Says:

    I don’t have anything more coherent to say than, “Yay!” That’s how boggled I am at your awesomeness.

    Yay!

  90. Lordo350 Says:

    Fantastic comic have really enjoyed reading it. It’s got everything from the show! it could go on forever lol. Give us a new one soon :D

  91. Hitbob Says:

    the way i sleep is on my bed watching doctor who thinking bout saterday. :)

  92. Hitbob Says:

    and still. is romana male or female. she looks female but she says she called fred. or is this restarting the female doctor who regen thing? coz she coulda been male first gen then gone female. and changed her name xD

  93. Hitbob Says:

    plus, is there a rss feed? and whats the update criterea?

  94. Kelly Says:

    Gah. Could this comic possibly get any cuter? :)

  95. Purrrple Says:

    We need to start a petition to get RTD to get the stick out of his ass and commission this as a Direct-To-DVD cartoon movie. Get all surviving actors willing to reprise the roles to record their parts whereever they live, and use old soundclips of 1, 2 and 3, or hire REALLY good soundalikes. animate it like the Infinite Quest, it will sell millions. Hammer how much money it will make into RTD’s brain. It’s better written and truer to the Whoniverse than most of what RTD himself writes, and I’ve loved every minute of it!

  96. Beard Says:

    Nice work.

    See, I’m always at odds with Romana, because on one hand, she’s a cool character, and a good foil for the oh-so-excitable Doctor. On the other hand, she breaks the whole ‘Time Lords are all the-Something, even if they have other names.”, which is just kind of weird for me. I mean, yeah, I know, for a while it was like no Time Lords had the title-names at all, but-well, hell, I’d even feel better if she sometimes went by “The Romana” ala “The Pax Romana”.

    Dunno why. Just the nerd in me. Anyway, I probably would’ve thrown in a little discomfort myself, just because it’s always a good idea to embarass the demigod, but this works pretty well too. Looking forward to more.

  97. Turnip Says:

    I love reading everything that people comment here. It’s very refreshing, because I have so few people that enjoy ranting about scifi in my life. My school has a bunch of clubs and stuff, but it has no real scifi club. It does, however, have a Star Wars club. Led by an annoying kid who cuts his hair really short, except for a braid at the side. Confirmed Jedi cosplayer. IN PUBLIC. What sort of school has Star Wars books in the library, anyway…? Ugh. Please let me die by something quicker and less painful. Like an infected stab wound to the stomach. If it weren’t for the wonderful communities of scifi geeks on the web, I’d go crazy, dress like a Klingon and storm the Jedi Order myself.

    Aren’t Ace and Rose still in the Dalek and Cybermen infested place? Hmm. When two rivals save each other, turn neutral if not friendly and team up, it either means that they’ll defeat the baddies on their own with the power of friendship…or one or both of them meet a dramatic end. Neither of which sound like very plausible scenarios, which calls upon option number three…dramatic and sudden entrance of the cavalry! Not sure who it’ll end up being. It’d be interesting if it was the posse and Jack (My previous comments concerning Jack were replying to someone else, by the way) because he might still think Rose died in Canary Wharf, if he’s before Utopia ect. And it’d be a cheerful and heartwarming reunion, except for the ‘Who the hell are you?’ by Rose. And if he’s after LotTL, Jack would know why he’s immortal. I don’t think he blames Rose, but it’d still be awkward.

    I still have trouble believing that a being who could control time and space and see all time lines wouldn’t be able to control bringing Jack to life. Bad Wolf had no trouble dealing with the Daleks, after all - not one molecule remained of them or the ship, but it’s not like she destroyed all evidence of them, either. She didn’t create a gaping Dalek fleet shaped hole, so why would she mess up fixing Jack? Clearly it was done on purpose…for what purpose, I don’t know.
    I’m just wondering why she chose to call herself the ‘Bad’ Wolf…as far as we know, the only ones that would’ve considered her so were the Daleks. Anyone with infinity up their sleeves has the potential for private agendas. Poor Rose. It would really suck to have an almost omnipotent entity plotting dastardly things in the back of your head.

  98. rumleech Says:

    Gosh thanks for the reply Rich, I wasn’t expecting that much attention to be paid to my rather facetious comment. I have to say that my fan concept of sex and the modern Time Lord is different. As I see it the Time Lords are not averse to the fun of propagating the species even if they do it in a rather stilted, stiff-upper-lip way, however I imagine they find the idea of relations with the other species in the universe rather “squicky” just as you or I would find getting it on with an especially bright chimp.

  99. The Other Jim Says:

    Fred!
    Panel 4- Spectrox Toxemia. Nice.

  100. Lady Tweed Says:

    Brilliant! Love your story telling power, leaving us to speculate on just what happened with a well placed conversation. Not every thing has to be known but oh! the itch of not knowing! I also thought the foreshortening of Jack’s arm well done. It certainly is a gesture Jack tends to use a lot. My hubby loves your style, thinks your drafting excellent. I wonder about the conversations in the car on the way back!

  101. Fangarius Says:

    Great episode, you definitely never disappoint! Just finished watching ‘Partners in Crime,’ (remember here in SciFi, we’re just getting the episodes, I rarely go to the Internet for spoilers. XD) and enjoyed seeing The Doctor with Donna again.

    Anyway, back to this episode, I love how once again Jaime inadvertently spills the beans. As well as Jack griping to Sarah over bringing a Time Lord to an Earth hospital, just as Romana comes out. Seems she wasn’t too upset being ‘revived’ by Grace. Though I guess this’ll teach Grace to go round kissing strangers with two hearts, eh?

    Once again, kudos to you, sir!

  102. Pauline Says:

    I cacked myself laughing!

    Sarah: ‘TimeLords!’
    I can imagine Jamie’s reply: ‘Oh, aye. Wee weird, aren’t they? Wee blue box and all that. Is her name really Fred?”

  103. Rich Says:

    ScaledMystic: Yes yes! They’re great! Tom Baker and Lalla Ward episodes especially (Romana 2). Romana 1 was good, but they were stil figuring out the character for the first few episodes (She was something new) and then she started to drift towards *standard companion* territory. Which is why Mary Tamm left the series. Romana 2 brought a whole counter-Doctor pixiness to the character that made her a real hoot and even potentially independantly successful. We could really believe that Romana 2 could have a series of her own when she left.

    Jonn Wolfe: Ahhh… no worries. I don’t know the series that well.

    Dave: Yeah… I’m not sure about including Romana 1. The story is confusing enough with 1 Romana, 1 Master, etc. Maybe in a future story. On the other hand, it could happen.

    Jonn Wolfe: Heheheheh. Yup.

    Dashe Niptaca: I agree with that.

    The Creeping Spleen: *bows* Thank you!

    Tom: As I’ve answered before (a couple of times, but that’s okay!) I have the overall story and several scenes planned out already. The encounters I write off the top of my head with the actors’ voices running about in there (and usually with Doctor Who soundtrack music on my iPod) Which is why I never know how long it will take to get through a scene, nor exactly how it will be resolved. Helps me to keep it fresh and exciting for me… and, hopefully, for all of you.

    DrkFire666: Heheheh, well, you could always hunt the actress down and try to find out. :D On the other hand, Romana might just be a lot nicer than we thought. (Ugh, that was disgusting)Oo. “That was… nice.” :D

    Levanta T.: I think leaving a Time Lord at an Earth hospital would seem like a bad idea anyway, don’t you?
    1: Ayup. :D Good catch!
    2: Hahahahah, quite! If only it were that simple! Actually the poster refers to a disease that is terminal with no known cure. Hence the name.
    (see Colin Baker in “Slipback”, a radio drama)

    Macfadyan: :D Please do! I’ve had both YAFGC and “The 10 Doctors” mentioned on podcasts before, please feel free to share the love!

    Kat-Klingon: I don’t know that it would be MORE confusing for me. But it would be more to keep track of. The only way Romana 1 could join is from a previous point in either the 4th Doctor’s travels (and then I’d have 2 4th Doctors!!) or from Gallifrey at a point before she left.
    It could happen…
    The 7th and 3rd, eh? Good choices. But then, I’m a fan of all of them. The 2nd Doctor and Jamies are a hoot together. I hope you’re able to track a few of them down.

    dgembadgemba: Goodness! Thank you! As for your question: I DON’T KNOW! SOON AS I’VE GOT TIME! Promise! :D

    Maureen MacDonald: :D I like coats. Glad you’re enjoying it, thank you!

    Sean: Heheh, ayup. Actually I copied her outfit from “The Horns of Nimon”. It’s a traditional riding outfit, I believe.

    Other Chris: I yam! Yay! Thank you! thank you! Hehehehehehe.. I’m not sure that anyone at the hospital witnessed the kiss, so I don’t know if they’d get a rep like that. But it is funny.

    schlechter_wolf: O.O Hahahahha, that’d be fun! Overseeing the story arcs, writing episodes, proofing other scripts…. *sigh* A dream job indeed. Let the BBC know that I’m interested.

    Casha Deptain: *blush* Hehehehe… If only.

    Other Chris: I didn’t even notice. But then, you’ve been reading this comic, so you’d understand why.

    KelinciHutan: Yay! Thank you!

    Lordo350: Thankyou! I don’t know if I want this one to go on forever. I’d prefer a solid and satisfying ending. But I could do more.

    Hitbob: Can you consolidate your answers into one post please?
    Hitbob: Ah, no. In Romana’s first story she’s introduced as Romanadvaratrelundar (or Romanadvoratnalundar depending on sources and interpretations of dialogue). The Doctor protests that her name is too long and proposes to call her Romana instead. Which she hates. He says to her: “It’s Romana or Fred.” Romana indicates that she prefers “Fred” to “Romana”. The Doctor ignores her. Later on she regenerates, but she’s still a woman. (The one in the comic is Romana 2) We have not, nor have ever seen, Time Lords swapping gender so far. In my universe, Time Lord society is so well advanced that they’re far above the Earth obsessions and hangups of sexuality and think of them as childlike and quaint. Generally preferring not to get involved at all (it’s far too much hassle.) This does not make Romana a “lesbo” as you so eloquently put it. If it must be interpreted in our terms, she’d be considered bisexual. But I think of it more in terms of asexual as far as Humans go.
    Hitbob: Yes there’s an rss feed. Hit the subscribe button at the top of the screen.

    Kelly: It could. But you wouldn’t like that. Heheheh…

    Purrrple: Aww… well, please don’t cheese the man off. A little notification sent his way would certainly be cool. But be nice! He’s a busy man and he HAS brought back the show in excellent form, and for that we should all be grateful. It could have come back a whole lot worse (I think of the revamping Star Trek went through) or not at all!

    Beard: Thank you.
    Actually, only a few TIme Lords in the series ever went with a title name. The Doctor and the Master supposedly (according to some sources) destroyed records of their former lives and decided to live anonymously. The Rani is a nickname meaning “witch”, which I presume she accepted nonchalantly to help preserve her own renegade anonymity. The War Chief, who adopted the title given him by the War Lords, so we just don’t know what his name was, and the Monk wasn’t the character’s name, just a description. The Valeyard was a variation (supposedly) of The Doctor, of who he was a sort of clone/future incarnation. Being a special case, he doesn’t really count.
    Then you’ve got a few who were in active duties who used their active titles, which happens here on Earth: Madame Inquisitor, Lord President, Castellan, Chancellor, etc. But even they would also use their names: President Borusa, Chancellor Flavia, etc.
    Every other Time Lord who appeared in the show had a name of some kind.
    Rassilon, Omega (which could have been a nickname, but we don’t know. It wasn’t THE Omega), Romana, Drax, Azreal, Hedin, Runcibel, Rodan, etc. Seeming to me to indicate that except in special circumstances, names were used.

    Turnip: Rose and Ace are, indeed, still in the warehouse with the Cybermen & Daleks. As are all the other companions. How their stories get resolved is something we’ll all just have to wait and see. Rose in this comic comes from a time before she’s met Cap’n Jack, and Jack himself comes from some point after the Dalek attack on the space station.
    As for why Rose didn’t make Jack mortal again cannot be guessed at, but the fact that he might someday become the Face of Boe really annoys me. Boe is definately an alien from the Isop Galaxy and has had kids. He wasn’t set up as Cap’n Jack, unless some really brilliant writing clears it all up. As for why “Bad” before “Wolf”, who knows? But that’s a thread that really didn’t get followed up well. It was brilliant until we found out it was just a couple of words Rose pulled out of thin air to seed Time with. *rolls eyes*

    rumleech: No problem. Facetious is good. And I interpret it a little differently. I think the Time Lords have the opposite, a highly evolved, complicated and formal method of doing everything, especially procreating what is a long-lived species. There’s much responsibility to be had with a population that doesn’t die off very often. Even the non-Time Lords, I’m guessing, have lengthy lifespans.
    But yeah, ‘doin’ it with a horny lemur is pretty much what it comes down to.

    The Other Jim: Hehehe, good catch.

    Lady Tweed: Thank you! And thanks to your hubby, though I’m not sure my *drafting* is anything special. I like to think my strength is in expressive figures.

    Fangarius: Heheehehe, yup. Grace should be more discriminating, I guess. Thank you!

    Pauline: Heheheheh… thank you!

  104. Kori Says:

    Oh, the look on Jack’s face is priceless. I’m surprised he didn’t figure it out before. Where there is trouble, there is usually the Doctor. ^_^
    And poor Grace. She should have known the Doctor wouldn’t be the only man, or person, with two hearts. At least the sleeping beauty act woke Romana up.

  105. Kat-Klingon Says:

    Actually Rich ‘Rani; meaning ‘witch’ must be the Gallifreyan meaning. On Earth it’s a — believe Hindu — word meaning ‘Queen’. Queen suits the Rani’s Time Lord and Womanly pride a good deal better methinks.

    That Time Lord and gender pride is the reason I do not believe Time Lords switch genders. Gender pride is a fairly common human trait, which would insult the Time Lord pride most likely, but it’s there.

    As this Jack is pre ‘Utopia — since he’s pre Martha-with-Doctor — here he has no clue WHY he’s immortal..

    I am thoroughly enjoying this comic! Still looking forward to the revealing of who is REALLY behind this, but as a writer myself I know better than to force a story beyond it’s pace.

  106. MarrowMan Says:

    Amazing update rich, thank you!

  107. Quazar Says:

    This comic makes me explode with glee on a near-weekly basis; have I told you that?

  108. wulfae Says:

    *claps hands with delight* Hooray, new comic! It’s been such a busy week, what with moving and then IMMEDIATELY going to the NY comic con, that I didn’t have time to check this out until yesterday!

    I laughed at Jacks ‘wheels turning in head’ expression, as well as Jamie’s obliviousness to telling random stangers about the alien he travels around with.

    Hope you had a good time in Toronto.

  109. scionofgrace Says:

    Your model of Jack looks great, and I like the foreshortening in the seventh panel. (Though if I may nitpick, Sarah Jane seems a bit tall. Lis Sladen is a truly tiny person!)

    But all art critique aside, great update! Love Jamie, love Jack, love Sarah Jane, love Romana! Didn’t catch the little background references until the folks posting mentioned them, and I love those too! All the characters’ personalities are bouncing off each other beautifully. More please!

  110. Hitbob Says:

    rich. I WANT OOD! I WANT OOD! SONTAR - HA! SONTAR HA! soz. and i havent seen the arc. so that confirmes the lesbo thing

  111. Brian Says:

    Clever, very clever. Just went through the whole series so far (just found this site today!). Definitely have the site bookmarked now. You’ve got so many of the characterizations dead-on, with so little space to do so. Well done!

  112. Gaz Says:

    YAY an update =D

    Great drawings =P

  113. Rasaon Says:

    wow
    are u going to add Dona, and Micky Smith to this. or the parralel Cybermen, or the time war daleks, or the new sontarans?, and what about a interaction bettwen UNIT and Torchwood.
    so good keep up the good work

  114. Azzandra Says:

    Is Jamie reading Weekly World News? Isn’t that the “aliens abducted me”/”I married Bigfoot”/”the pyramids foretell the end of the world” publication, or am I mistaken?

    …Meh, probably nothing they write would really surprise him, all things considered.

    Romana is acting pretty cool, though. And hey, they’ll connect the dots now and realise they’re all companions. That’s gonna be a fun revelation.

  115. joe england Says:

    Hey Rich, seen the latest episode? ***Spoiler Deleted - Take it to the forum please***

  116. joe england Says:

    …That was a spoiler? I’m sorry, I didn’t think it qualified.

  117. Hilary Says:

    Joe: The episode only aired yesterday! Give it a few days for people to download and watch the episode before discussing it here. If you want to talk about episodes immediately, we have spoiler bar capabilities on the forum, here: http://yafgc.shipsinker.com/forums

  118. Tom Scum Says:

    oh wow… I just found this and read all 88 pages. I can’t believe I’ll have to wait for an update. How fun is this?? I love it!

    tom

  119. joe england Says:

    Well, it seemed common-sense to me. I’m sure I didn’t say anything we weren’t all thinking. After all, who else would mastermind the Sontaran strategy but the illegitimate clone of Davros? And anyone who didn’t see Martha’s alien pregnancy coming from a mile away should have their head examined. Why it was almost as obvious as Jack turning out to be the Moxx of Balhoon! But I see what you mean, after all, what if I were to give away how the Doctor managed to defeat the Black Guardian in the last four minutes with nothing but a shoelace and the holy grail or how Rose Tyler showed up and mutated into Harry Sullivan? It’d ruin the show for everyone! So I’ll be more careful. Why, I’ll be as quiet as the Raston robot who snuck into UNIT headquarters and stole Saxon’s ashes for the Rutan clonemongers!
    (I’m absolutely kidding, by the way. Snicker.)
    Joking aside, Rich, what size paper do you work on? What thickness are your pencils? I’m curious.

  120. Ben Says:

    This comic has gone beyond being fanwanky. It’s even beyond fanwonky.

    It’s pure, unrefined MADNESS.

    And I love it.

  121. Daisy Says:

    For what it is worth, I’ve been drawing Doctor Who characters since the 1980’s, and know most of the old DW artists. I just wanted to make it known that Rich is one of the best interpretors of DW characters I’ve ever seen, and i’ve seen a lot. Congratulations in a big way, and keep up the inspired fun and nonsense!

  122. Lisa Says:

    ….how’d I miss this posting??????????????????????

    I love it!!!

  123. Paderic Says:

    This is awesome! I’m a big fan of Doctor Who, and a friend of mine gave me the address to this site. Heh, I’ve always wondered what a ten Doctor cross-over would be like, along with Torchwood and the Sarah Jane Adventures. Woot for huge storylines! Keep up the good work! Love it!

  124. mamfidd Says:

    I am so extraordinarily fond of and excited by this comic. You’re a wonder-worker, Rich, keeping myself and other Antipodeans satisfied whilst we wait impatiently for the new series!

  125. Leah Says:

    You know, I just realised that I have no idea how you manage to keep all of those separate plotlines working together in your head. HOW IS IT POSSIBLE?
    My respect for you, if it’s possible, just tripled.

  126. Rich Says:

    Kori: Ayup. Hehehe

    Kat-Klingon: *researches* You’re right. Where did I read that? Somewhere I read that “Rani” referred to a gypsy witch or old wise woman. The Rani never struck me as “gender proud”, to be honest. She’s just interested in doing to colossally amoral experiments (or getting revenge, which I never liked. That’s a Master plot rather than a Rani plot).
    As for Jack, that’s correct. He’s still looking for the Doctor to try to get some answers.
    Thank you!

    MarrowMan: Thank you!

    Quazar: Eep. Messy. Sorry about that.

    wulfae: We did, actually, thank you!

    scionofgrace: Thankyou! My heights are all in flux since I don’t have that level of reference with me when I draw them. I go by impressions of height rather than actor stats.
    Thank you! More coming!

    Hitbob: Ood, eh? We’ll have to see about that. You want Sontarans, they’re already there. Look back at the Galactic Federation pages.

    Brian: Thank you! It’s a joy to write.

    Gaz: Yay! Thanks!

    Rasaon: You mean Donna? I might. You’ll have to wait and see what else turns up.

    Azzandra: He is! Good catch! That’s the very rag. They just recently stopped printing it, so it’s only available now online. Sadly. My buddies and I used to get it every Tuesday.

    joe england: Sorry joe, having not seen the episode yet, I wasn’t sure if it was or not, so I deleted it to be safe. There are some readers who are trying very hard not to get even impressions of the new stuff before they’ve seen it.

    Hilary: Thank you!

    Tom Scum: Holy crap! Thank you! All in one sitting? You’re mad!

    joe england: Smartass. My pages are simple 8.5″ x 11″ (that’s as big as my scanner will take.) divided into 8 equalish parts. My pencils range from HB to B (sometimes I’m stuck with a 2B but they get all smudgey and I hate that. I’m left handed, so smudging is a serious issue for me).

    Ben: Yay! Fangeek love!

    Daisy: Woah! Really? That’s one of the nicest things anyone’s ever said to me! This comment page and the forum are just way too nice to me!

    Lisa: You looked the other way maybe? Heheheh… Thanks!

    Paderic: Thank your friend for me? Hope it’s meeting your expectations! Thank you for reading!

    mamfidd: *bounce bounce* I like making people happy! Thank you!

    Leah: Aw, it’s not so hard really. I just wish I could use that memory for RL stuff too.

  127. Kat-Klingon Says:

    Oh, I don’t know Rich, I just heard or read it somewhere. I seem to collect a lot of stuff like that without realizing it. *shrugs*

    As for Gender Proud, Me is a woman and PROUD to be. Us women folk can tell — even when you boys are clueless. Her pride in her expermental skills is in there to, really. There was a saying in my younger days. ‘I am Woman, Hear me roar!’

  128. Hitbob Says:

    when i said sontarons i meant the bleepin 10th not the old 7th! and also, will somone confirm how lesbo fred is? and gaz please unblock me and ax and paul

  129. Hitbob Says:

    as in qoth battelon not the 7th, as in new not old etc
    *translation: Blah blah blah*

  130. Leah Says:

    Hitbob, dude, what’s WRONG with you? Seriously. Chill.
    ‘Fred’ is just as ‘lesbo’ as any other Time Lord. They’re ‘above’ that, or whatever. So take a few deep breaths and move past this little hurdle. I’m sure you can manage it eventually.
    Or are you suggesting that she’s FROM Lesbos?
    Well, of course not. She’s Gallifreyan. Sheesh.
