The 10 Doctors - Page 76

Sabalom Glitz arrives on the Imperial Dalek flagship with a precious cargo for Davros.  He has a brief encounter with a Dalek before the Rani, who he’d picked up earlier, shoves it out of the way contemptuously.

  1. Tyriel0001 Says:

Oh Glitz, Glitz, Glitz, when will you learn?

  2. geck Says:

glitz standing up to a possible extermination? *gasp!* absolutly loving the dalek style, they come up a treat, and such fine little details!, the little dent in the arm cup, the shiny balls, ahh, if only i had a button maker :)

  3. Leah Says:

I think I’ve lost track of the plot. He was somewhere earlier with people with this disease delivering supplies, right?

  4. wulfae Says:

This is making me really want to finish seeing all of classic who.

  5. Heather Says:

Leah, if I recall correctly, Glitz ducked off and left Mel and Nyssa on some undiscolsed personal business. I guess we just found out what that was. I have no idea which comic it was in, though, and I don’t have time this morning to trawl through the archives.

  6. Therru Says:

I love it when my “Ten Doctors” fixes come this close together. XD

  7. Jim North Says:

    EX-PER-I-MENT!
    *EX-PER-I-MEEEEENT!!!*

  8. Jess Says:

    EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
Another one so soon? You are spoiling us and I love it!
Just to check something, since I’m somewhat lacking in a few classic Who series, but it Glitz a Time Lord, or not?

  9. Jaysun Says:

Great stuff, I am really enjoying this entire comic.

  10. Reinder Says:

I think that Dalek just discovered he likes dominant women.

  11. Mreen Says:

There was a recap page 75(part2), and someone texted a recap in the replies to the Christmas Special page (page 75 part1) but yes, Mel and Glick were delivering supplies to Nyssa aboard Terminous, when Glick mysteriously took off (probably thinking he’d covered his tracks by leaving Mel on a ship with a highly contagious lethal leprosy type disease, not realizing that Nyssa has the treatment and curing of the disease well in hand and Mel is far more likely to survive than not. Glick has a tendency to sell out his companions to quite horrible fates, whether he likes them or no.)

  12. Mreen Says:

I really want to take the first pic, the Dalek ringing the doorbell (so it would seem by itself), and use it as the entry pic to this story
Caption:”Don’t look now, but guess who’s arrived with a new page?”

  13. Lisa Says:

Jess, no he is not a Time Lord. He’s a money-loving rogue from the Andromeda constellation. Here’s his Wiki page.

  14. Lisa Says:

Also….love the Rani blowing off the Daleks.

  15. Mreen Says:

    Jess-

No, Glitz is a rogue and scoundrel, smuggler with no morals but a good sense of humor, who somehow cuts a comical loveable figure in the stories (does anyone out there NOT like him?) tho he was first seen selling his crew, their bodies minds and souls, to get some extra profit from an icy megalomaniac with mad scientist tendencies. (Mel was the Doctor’s companion in that adventure and met Ace, a displaced 20th century waitress with a genius for explosives, and set her up to travel with the Doctor while she set out to reform Glick).

  16. herk Says:

Even the Daleks stand back when there’s a woman who nows what she wants :)

  17. Laura Says:

    Glee! A new one!

I can only imagine a cut scene with that Dalek on a therapy couch, talking about how powerless he feels sometimes, when the lesser species just won’t obey.

  18. Rich Says:

Tyriel0001: If he learned, he just wouldn’t be Sabalom Glitz!

geck: Thanks! I’ve got a bit of a head for little details.

Leah: Yeah, that’s right. He and Mel brought supplies to Nyssa on space station Terminus -an ancient spaceship converted into a medical research facility located oddly at the center of the universe (see the 5th Doctor episode “Terminus”) where Lazar’s disease was being treated with radiation.

    Wolfae: I endorse this mission.

Heather: Yup! And I don’t remember either. Back there somewhere.

    Therru: Me too! :D

Jim North: ALL DATA WILL BE EXTRAPOLATED! EXTRAPOLATE! EXTRAPOLAAAAAATE!

Jess: Others have answered this better than I. But no, he’s not.

Jaysun: Thanks! I’m having a good time writing/drawing it.

Reinder: They have trouble getting the latex on, though. And it frustrates them that they can’t feel the spankings through all that Dalekanium armour.

Mreen: Glitz knew that the disease was contained pretty well, really, I think. He just needed an excuse to hang back and get out. He didn’t want to KILL Mel. Just get her out of nosing around range. He knew she’d never approve of doing a mission for the Emperor of the DALEKS!
Mel never actually met the Daleks onscreen… but everyone knows who they are sooner or later. Especially if you’re on a pirate ship. And it’s GlitZ… rather than Glick. Although that is a pretty good name for a space pirate too.

Mreen: Hehehe… BZZZT… DALEK AVON CALLING! He wasn’t meant to be pushing anything, but it does look like he’s ringing the doorbell doesn’t it? The ping was supposed to be an indicator that the docking corridor was pressurized between the Dalek ship and Glitz’.

Lisa: Oh, thanks for that link! Very cool.

Lisa: Yeah, heheh, the Rani don’t take no crap from space garbage cans.

Mreen: Actually, that’s the second time we see Glitz. The first time was in the first four episodes of “Trial of a Time Lord”, in the section called “The Mysterious Planet” where he and his partner Dibber are trying to steal some mysterious object from an old colonization robot named Drathro. He reappeared as a character witness in the Trial at the end for the sequence called “The Ultimate Foe” with Mel. Then he appeared again in the 7th Doctor episode “Dragonfire” which you have described above.

herk: Damn right. There’s a reason there are no Dalek women. They want to feel superior.

    Laura: Daleks have delicate psyches.

  19. The Creeping Spleen Says:

Yaaaay! Go Rani, go Rani, go Rani! :D

  20. Mreen Says:

Ah. I may have blocked most of Trial of a Time Lord to protect *my* psyche. But thanks for the recap (g)
Glitz. Ooops. Hm. It does sound like a Bratz doll, but then again, he came before the line came out :-)

  21. Sean Says:

Yes! I loved that last bit.

I think that Glitz may have a soft spot for Mel and the Doctor. As much as he is annoyed by Mel, he hasn’t gotten rid of her yet (assuming he’s going to go back for her at some point). And he usually comes to the Doctor’s rescue (and he never asks for anything in return. Strange, eh?)

  23. Jess Says:

Hey thanks guys - Lisa, Mreen, Rich - it all makes more sense now! I’m so in love with this comic!

  24. Mreen Says:

Heh heh - okay Rich, here’s the pic I’d use for the link:
    http://forums.scifi.com/index.php?showtopic=2285520&st=240#entry4764774
I put it there so I can edit it bye-bye if you don’t like it :)

  25. Hilary Says:

Sometimes, having access to Rich’s fonts is worth its weight in gold.

  26. Rich Says:

    TheCreepingSpleen: Rah-Rah-Rani!

Mreen: Ah yes. Very possible. Though it started out pretty good. It just fell apart halfway and sucked.
As for the Bratz doll thing… heheheheheh.. that made me laugh loud.

Sean: Yeah, he’s a villain with a heart of gold. Very likeable that way. It’s too bad he never became a real companion.

Jim North: I nearly PEEED MYSELF, Jim! Friggin hilarious! Thank you for that! Can I keep it? I LOVE it!

Jess: Good! Glad that helped. And VERY glad you’re enjoying my comic. Yay!

Mreen: Hahahahahha, nice! By all means, use it. I might even clean it up and colour it for you later.

    HIlary: AWSOME! Here’s mine:

Now it’s your turn! This is a reader’s caption contest. Nab this image and make your own captions. Make us all laugh! Winner gets… um… a…. a heartwarming thanks.

  27. JR Tyner Says:

    Ha! Try Vacuums.

  28. Melanie Says:

Rich, you deserve a hug and a kiss for posting a new page so soon after the previous one! Only if your wife doesn’t mind, though. Maybe she can give them to you on my behalf?

And “Land shark” made me cough with laughter.

    My first thought was “Candy-gram…”

  29. Rich Says:

JR Tyner & Melanie: Hey! No image with text added? C’mon…

Hilary agrees, btw. She’ll hug and kiss me for you. :) Thank you!

As for the contest, here’s the original image:

and here’s a cleaned up version if you prefer:

    Caption away!

  30. herk Says:

    Jehova’s winesses!

    or

They might not be able to climb stairs but they CAN press elevator buttons.

  31. JR Tyner Says:

  32. JR Tyner Says:

  33. JR Tyner Says:

(The first post is me trying HTML, it didn’t work so how do you display images here?)

  34. Hilary Says:

I just used the standard html code - [img src ] and so on (albeit with fnords). Maybe it’s different because I’m logged in as an admin? Links are good, though.

  35. Rich Says:

I added the appropriate code to your post, JR. Is okay?

Looks great! Heheheheheh… Plungers. Good ones!

  36. Melanie Says:

All right, then… Keep in mind that I’m very new to Photoshop…

  37. Melanie Says:

  38. Rich Says:

You’re having the same trouble JR Tyner had. Looks like you’ll have to just put up the URL for the image. We can fix it on our end if you like.

  39. Melanie Says:

*sigh* It’s not showing up… Help please?

  40. Melanie Says:

    Ok, thanks!

  41. Rich Says:

    Hahahahahah NICE!

  42. JR Tyner Says:

Thanks Rick, I just used MS Paint.

  43. Rich Says:

    Rick?

  44. Mreen Says:

Well, there’s the one that has to be done:

  45. JR Tyner Says:

Rich, I worked a 16 hour shift today, H and K are only separated only by a J, can I get a break?

  46. Mreen Says:

I discovered HPImage solar effect does wonderful things to your drawings so …well, this evolved before I could stop it. Sorry about the missmatching fonts tho!!

If steps one thru 5 dont appear, I’ll try posting the link…

  47. Mreen Says:

now…my post didnt appear with the links? okay, I’ll wait and try later.
(I know, the suspense is killing you….)

  48. Mreen Says:

okay… the last post appeared and links didnt?

time to go back to the drawing board.

    ahem.

    Step 1

    Step 2

    Step 3-5

  49. Phantom Drummer Says:

Dude, Rani just pushed aside that Dalek in the eyepiece…very scary yet ultimately cool at the same time.

Yes, Rich, I had a great holiday, thanks. Keep up the awesome work, and thanks for the comeback count.

(Hilary, I like your caption the best!)

  50. Rich Says:

    Mreen: Hehehheheh, very good.

JR Tyner: Just making sure you’re talking to me and not some other reader named Rick.

Mreen: Sometimes posts with multiple links need to be moderated first. I’ll check and see if that’s the case. And it was! Hehehhe, very cool. But I’m having trouble reading the last 3 steps. :(

Phantom Drummer: The Rani’s not scared o’ no Daleks.

  51. Lila Kooks Says:

    ROFLMBO

  52. Jim North Says:

Rich says: “Can I keep it?”

As long as you remember to feed and walk it every day! ;)

I’m just sad that I wasn’t able to do the entire sketch properly.

  53. Mreen Says:

It is impossible to read isnt it? The fonts werent the best choice, and the web page is scrunching the picture to fit it in, which puts it below readable level. I have split it into two pics, so please substitute these links for step 3 if you can:
    Step 3

    Step 4 and 5

I hope that’s better. I’ll rethink the fonts if I do another!

(BTW, all these everyone else is doing are great! Love Jim’s Burgler page too :) )

  54. Heather Says:

Jim, thanks for the burgler sketch. That was hilarious. :)

    Caption contest, eh? Hmmm…..

  55. Kelly Says:

Nice use of comedic timing in the last two panels! That was great. And I love everyone’s captions :)

  56. Gaz Says:

I liked that confrontation. The Rani bit was random. GO RANDOM!!

  57. Chris Says:

rich, if u r interested I have done a complete colured version of this page but with renegade daleks instead. Its not excellent but its okay.

  58. Rich Says:

Sure, I’ll take a look. They ARE Imperial Daleks, though, in this ship. For my story to work.

  59. Maverick21uk Says:

what happened to the lady, stephanie , who started colouring the 10 doctors pages has stopped now now or has she been too busy with work, if so i understand.

  60. Elle Says:

Hahaha, sadly, since I just recently became a (true) fan, I don’t know half of these people (though luckily I still know more than normal thanks to the internet) . I cant wait till my dad finds the shows. In relation to the comic, I like the Hmf he does in the 2nd to last panel.

  61. Julia Says:

Um very nice to all the other people, Rich very very funny, i love it how she just barjes in and pushes the dalek away! Good Job. :)

  62. Julia Says:

Oh and um rich my friend and i are doing a comic any advice?

  63. Joe England Says:

Man, that Rani is one rugged mother… shut my mouth!? But I’m just talkin’ bout the Rani! Yeah, you can dig it. Oh, she’s a complicated renegade Time Lady…

  64. Scott Alexander Says:

    Lovely strip

Be kinder to Doctor 9 and give Doctor 2 more to do.

    Keep up the great work!

  65. ottselspy24 Says:

this picture,if I can get it up , is an alternet version of the xmas specil.

  66. phantom_student Says:

Oh, Glitz… *shakes head* I always get nervous when people’s backs are turned to the Daleks. :s

  67. Rich Says:

Maverick21 - Yeah, I’m afraid that’s exactly what happened. She occasionally pings me and lets me know she’s still doing it, but she’s gotten real busy with RL stuff.

Elle: Heheheh, thanks. Yeah, the old shows are pretty fun. Silly and cool all at once. And lots of cheese. Have fun reviewing them!

Julia: Advice? I dunno…. Make sure it’s fun for you and your friend. Don’t worry too much about what other people may think or what they may say. If it becomes difficult or a chore, you’ll probably stop doing it. Like this one and my other comic, YAFGC, I just DO what I want with it and maybe people will like it. So far so good, for the most part. I have had a few complaints, both to me directly and that I’ve read elsewhere, but I don’t care. That’s not to say that some people might not have some good ideas or suggestions, but you can’t worry that not everyone will be pleased, because that will never happen.
I guess that’s my advice. If you have any more direct questions, please let me know. And I’d love to see your comic!

Joe England: She’s gonna those Dalek suckas the SHAAAAFT!

Scott: Thanks! No. Yes sir! :D (Don’t worry, each Doctor is going to get a chance to shine. Even the ones I’ve temporarily written out)

Ottselspy24: Ohh.. try again try again! Wanna seeee! Try just uploading it and putting the URL in the comment post. That way we can see it through the link. Then if you like I can fix the coding so it shows up here as well.

Phantom Student: Yeah, it’s generally a bad idea isn’t it? Fortunately Glitz knows that until he hands over the Lazar’s sample, he’s mostly immune to extermination.

  68. Sean Says:

I just realized that Glitz and the Rani’s last Doctor was the 7th. Can’t wait to see everyone’s reactions when they all meet.

    7: Glitz?!
    Glitz: Doctor?!
    Rani: Doctor…
    7: The Rani!!
    (Pause)
    Davros: A-hem!
    Glitz: Oh right…

  69. JR Tyner Says:

Sean, my vote’s for the ninth Doctor to find them. He’s due for some limelight, and his personality would be perfect for that meeting.

  70. Lila Kooks Says:

How do I add my edition of the Dalek ringing the doorbell?

  71. Julia Says:

I’ll try to explain, well my friend she is the one drawing the comic and she is very self-consouis about this kinda stuff i just tell her what to do and if she likes it she does it and changes it abit. We’re thinking it might be a movie but were just kids but if you see a movie called Family Tree it’s ours the name sounds weird without actually knowing the story. Oh and thanx 4 z advice. :)

  72. Rich Says:

Sean: You’re right! I didn’t even notice that! Hehehehe.. worked out well, didn’t it?

    JR Tyner: Interesting.

Lila: Just upload the image to some server space and type the URL into a comments box. We’ll be able to click on it to see it. Once that’s up, I can add the code necessary to make it appear directly in the comments list.

Julia: Family Tree, eh? I’ll look it up. You’re welcome and good luck to both of you with the comic!

  73. bob Says:

i know the Creator of this blog!
    i’m standing next to them!
    i am so amazing!

  74. Barima Says:

Great to have this back. I’d like to join in the captioning but I ain’t so hot on Photoshop. But I’d like to submit: “Can I use your bathroom?”

Can’t wait to see the Doctor again soon. Any of him. Echo that 9 needs to do something cool soon (I mean, aside from the chance to shine that you’ve assured us all with, Rich - I can’t wait for all 10 of those moments), and hope it doesn’t revolve around Rose (who I reckon 10 was definitely more obsessed with). I think his personal moments would/should have more to do with being surrounded by all the people, places and things that are gone and for which he feels all that guilt i.e. seeing Romana alive again, Drax too etc

  75. Rich Says:

Bob: Um… do I know you?

Barima: Hahahahhaah, nice one! Y’know, you may be right about the 9th and 10th Doctors. I’ll have to rewatch. Hey, any excuse, eh?

  76. Liz Says:

Roto Rooter?? *laughs* So Jason and Grant are working with Daleks now? (oh, yeah- they work for the company, and are co-founders of The Atlantic Paranormal Society aka TAPS- the basis of the show ‘Ghost Hunters’)

  77. Lila Kooks Says:

    Ok…here goes…

    http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.editAlbumPhoto&albumID=425137&imageID=25894985&MyToken=f1efbb88-72cb-4e5f-87c1-8d935734ca7b

  78. Jon Says:

Why do I so easily imagine a sweat-drop on the last panel with the poor Dalek being used and abused and ignored…

Still, good storytelling and this is fun.

  79. Dave Says:

Is anyone else worried that Glitz might end up falling in love? Say it isn’t so!

Anyway, another great page. Already looking forward to the next one, but I’m thankful I can rely on a weekly Torchwood fix to prevent the jitters. :p

  80. meddling Monk Says:

Give us Romana Having A Spag Attack In Hospital, And Grace And Matha Working Together to cure her

  81. Sammie Says:

This’ll sound trite, but my favorite part was when the Rani pushed the Dalek backwards with its eye-stalk. .:snicker:.
