The 10 Doctors: Page 74
Yup. An update. Last one before my family fly off to Montreal for Christmas.
The Master introduces the 3rd and 5th Doctors to the mastermind of the battle planning committee, none other than the War Chief. The old renegade himself is none too thrilled to see the Doctor again.

December 20th, 2007 at 7:57 am
Good grief! My eyebrows raise every time you introduce a new character. I can’t help but wonder who else is going to appear from the annalls of Who history! I’m still waiting for the Brig.
Have a good time on Montreal and Merry Christmas to you. When are you back?
December 20th, 2007 at 7:57 am
Incidentally I look NOTHING LIKE that avatar! Where do they come from?
December 20th, 2007 at 8:00 am
We’ll be back in town soon after the New Year. As for the avatars, check out the news thread titled “wavatars”. They’re a little plug-in thing my wife is experimenting with.
December 20th, 2007 at 9:11 am
Really great development! Can’t wait for the next one, can’t you cancel your xmas? :p
December 20th, 2007 at 9:33 am
mwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
December 20th, 2007 at 9:34 am
SQUEEEE
Another 10 Doctor’s page, that’s the best pre Christmas present.
The Master rules “Then you can go back to your flower arranging or pottery or whatever it is you do when you’re not annoying me.”
December 20th, 2007 at 9:35 am
haha
December 20th, 2007 at 9:59 am
Thanks, Rich! Merry Christmas!
December 20th, 2007 at 10:10 am
Oooo! I *hate* the War Chief…. mostly because he was responsible for the Doctor having to call the Time Lords for help and then the Time Lords erased poor Jamie and Zoe’s memories! Booooo!
But I am astounded to see him here. Talk about someone I never thought I’d see.
And for the record — I *like* the Wavatars… even though mine looks nothing like me either. I like the monacle… seems very British and I’m a bit of an Anglophile.
December 20th, 2007 at 10:21 am
Have a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!
or as we say here “Ich wünsche euch ein schönes Fest und einen guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr!”
December 20th, 2007 at 11:20 am
Oh, the War Chief! Is there still someone left who has not appeared yet? Looking forward to the Brig and Bambera in any case.
Merry Christmas to you
December 20th, 2007 at 11:51 am
Another great installment. I love how you’re reintroducing all the characters from the classic series. Keep up the great work!
Oh yes, and Merry Christmas!
December 20th, 2007 at 12:25 pm
Hee hee, flower arranging and pottery. That sounds like something the Master would say.
December 20th, 2007 at 12:35 pm
Very happy to see another installment today, particularly after reading news yesterday about the upcoming comic series from IDW. The writer they’ve snagged for the Tenth just doesn’t seem to understand the character at all.
December 20th, 2007 at 12:44 pm
Awesome
December 20th, 2007 at 12:45 pm
AHHH! A New Page! Best Present ever! Love it. Keep up the good work.
Merry Christmas to all!
December 20th, 2007 at 12:45 pm
I knew the War Chief couldn’t have been left out of the fun of a full-out war against the Daleks. Is it just me or his he dressed strikingly similar to the Master? And a nice Ainley-ish chuckle thrown in at the last panel.
BTW, Merry Christmas and have fun in Montreal, eh?
December 20th, 2007 at 2:22 pm
Blimey!! Believe it or not I wasn’t expecting that. Although, it never did sit right with me when the War Lords shot him down. I just assumed he was on his last regeneration.
December 20th, 2007 at 2:41 pm
love it completely =) i check back EVERYDAY!! well almost… anyway Merry christmas! =)
December 20th, 2007 at 2:43 pm
I hold to the assertion that the Doctor knits while he’s not busy saving the universe or annoying the Master.
December 20th, 2007 at 2:47 pm
Yay! Love it!
December 20th, 2007 at 2:53 pm
Hooray, a new page, and one with the war chief yet!
Out of curiousity, what are you using to draw these? A tablet and the computer, or a col-erase? Have a merry Christmas in Montreal! Have some poutine. n___n
December 20th, 2007 at 2:54 pm
Madison: The Doctor wouldn’t knit, he’d crochet. Much manlier.
December 20th, 2007 at 3:00 pm
Oh, such simpler times when you could always tell an evil Time Lord by his facial hair. Actually that didn’t work on the Monk. Or President Borusa. Or the Rani. Okay I’ll shut up now.
December 20th, 2007 at 3:12 pm
But Wulfae, wherever did he get those scarfs, then? Or 7’s knitted jumper?
December 20th, 2007 at 3:23 pm
Hi Rich, long time reader, first time Commenting.
This is great, I’ve really been enjoying these.
Happy Christmas to you and your and have a good, and Safe, time in Montreal.
Phe
December 20th, 2007 at 3:30 pm
Thanks everyone! Glad you’re enjoying it!
Wulfae: I use 8.5″x11″ paper and a good ole’ HB Staedler pencil. (Or sometimes a B depending on what’s available.) I scan them, adjust the levels and redo the text in photoshop.
December 20th, 2007 at 3:54 pm
I wasn’t expecting an update this close to Christmas so this was a lovely surprise! I hope you and your family (and my fellow readers too!) have a great holiday.
I look forward to lots more of The 10 Doctors in the new year!
December 20th, 2007 at 4:00 pm
BTW Happy Holidays to you and your family Rich! A new 10 Doctors update always brings a smile!
December 20th, 2007 at 4:03 pm
Yay! New comic! Thank you, Rich! *does happy dance*
@herk: I laughed at that line, too. I think Rich has the Master’s snarkiness down pat. I can just _hear_ Tony Ainley saying those lines.
December 20th, 2007 at 4:52 pm
This is awesome! So many new twists, every page almost! *claps* Yay!
December 20th, 2007 at 5:00 pm
I check back every day (well since I got addicted) thanks for the pre-Chritmas update…and Merry Christmas to you and your family!
….and hurry home I can’t wait to see what happens next!
December 20th, 2007 at 5:26 pm
Ohh, Update! I’ve been checking every day but never had the time to comment again. My computer is dying on me so the internet doesn’t like to work and I have to wait until my parents are not on theirs to use them. On the plus side I have a Wii and it has internet connection, so I’ve been using it to check the comic when I couldn’t use a computer, although commenting when on the Wii is a bit of a pain.
Merry Christmas to you and your family and Have a safe trip.
December 20th, 2007 at 5:45 pm
Thanks for the X-mas update, Rich! It’s wonderful, as always!
Joyeux Noël! Bonne Année!
December 20th, 2007 at 6:02 pm
My Avatar looks silly.
Also, I knew it! Although I’m still somewhat of the persuasion that the War Chief is a former Master regeneration (for much the same reasons as you say above, that his body was last seen off-screen) but I do enjoy this War Chief / Master team-up. I like his new appearance, by the way. Very War Chief but… updated somehow. Newer.
Have a good holiday and see you when you get back!
December 20th, 2007 at 8:15 pm
Madison: Darnit, you caught me! Unless he’s gone online to figure out how to transfer knitted patterns into crochet… *shifty eyes* alright, you caught me, I’ve got nothing.
Rich: That’s really an HB or B pencil? Huh! I like how it scans. Thanks for telling me.
I agree with Inutaisho, I always thought that the War Chief was a former regeneration of the Master. I was reading over the episode summary of the War Games though, and I realised that I couldn’t remember why I got that impression.
December 20th, 2007 at 9:07 pm
Yay, an update! ^_^
December 20th, 2007 at 9:12 pm
Dude! these are completely awesome!
I have a request … being as every other classic villain has appeared, can we have a spot of Weng Chiang?
I’ll keep reading these as long as you do ‘em.
Incredibly good!
December 20th, 2007 at 9:22 pm
Wulfae (and others who felt that the War Chief was a previous regeneration of the Master):
I used to feel the same way about that. Especially after I got involved with the FASA RPG who decided for whatever reason that the Monk was an early Master, but the War Chief wasn’t. He looks like the Master for cryin’ out loud. There’s one simple reason, however, why I feel he really can’t be:
He hasn’t met the Doctor before The War Games, but knows him by reputation. He far too goofy to be a Master, but then, it’s possible he learned from his mistakes. However, it’s interesting to have more renegades running around.
Plurgid: Weng Chiang, eh?.. we’ll see. We’ll seeee….
December 20th, 2007 at 11:37 pm
You know, I actually went back and took a look and… damn you to heck and back but you’re right. And the Master and the Doctor knew each other at the Academy.
Phooey and double phooey.
December 20th, 2007 at 11:44 pm
…I don’t think there are even any named/titled Time Lords *left* now… ^.^
December 21st, 2007 at 12:25 am
Love it! Keep ‘em coming good sir! Merry Christmas!
December 21st, 2007 at 12:32 am
I love the way you draw the Master -he’s just brilliant! I can’t wait to see the Brig, if he’s turning up. Thanks so much for doing this comic, it’s wonderful!
December 21st, 2007 at 12:34 am
Oh, and to respond to this:
Evil Midnight Lurker Says:
December 20th, 2007 at 11:44 pm
…I don’t think there are even any named/titled Time Lords *left* now… ^.^
We haven’t had Iris Wildthyme yet . . .
December 21st, 2007 at 12:41 am
hmm- I’m really a much happier person than my avatar seems to be
I do think the War Cheif and The Master do look an awful lot alike, but the main reason I dont think they are the same person is that the War Cheif really isnt all that bright compared to the Master. The Master is very smart and clever, and tends to do better than the Doctor even on a technological scale, the Doctor tends to win out because he’s not only a genius, (esp in thermodynamics) but he has a better grasp of psychology than the Master and can inuit where the solution must be while the Master has to create his problems from scratch.
The War Cheif …well, he really glorifies in war and tends to get caught up in his role before an army. The Master doesnt really care about chaos and war so much (in general, tho this incarnation clearly delights in it for itself) so much as power, and what he can gain in control from the chaos around him. He just wants to rule the universe, be all powerful and never die. (He’d have gotten away with it too, if it werent for those meddlesome Doctors and thier dog!)
Well, ok, after Delgado, the Master went a bit mad again and began obsessing about killing the Doctor off as part of his life’s goal, wont make a plan that doesnt draw the Doctor into it, so he can be ready for the Doctor and kill him off (or get some sort of paralizing revenge)…made him a touch sillier than Delgado’s Master, but really, a lot of fun.
Anyhow…the War Cheif, while impressive enough in his time, just never seemed up to the Master’s standards as a scientist and meglomaniac.
December 21st, 2007 at 12:49 am
Hmm- typos galore again in my post.. maybe that’s why my avitar is so unhappy. It has to sit and stare at them whilst I can shrug and move on with my day
The Master is very smart and clever, and tends to do better than the Doctor on a technological scale.
Is how that sentence went in my head, and the rest was to be a new sentence. Also, the mystery worid in the next would be sentence is intuit, not in fact, the Doctor’s human half being related to the peoples of North American Artic circle.
I tend to type a lot of typos in the late hours so I hope you can intuit your way around them.
Meanwhile, still doing my happy dance to see another page here
December 21st, 2007 at 3:35 am
Thanks for bringing us this story, Rich. You’re quite good at it. Happy Holidays and enjoy Montreal, it’s a very beautiful city. (been there)
December 21st, 2007 at 4:28 am
Umm… hi. I just read all of these (I found the link through Planet Gallifrey) and I must say… wow. This is amazing–sprawling, rambling, epic, and so very Doctor Who that it makes me grin. The drawings are wonderful, and the dialogue is spectacular. I can’t wait to see more. I hope you have happy holidays and enjoy Montreal.
December 21st, 2007 at 9:00 am
Yay!
Thanks for a new page Rich! Anything Doctor Who always makes the best presents
Merry Christmas to you all!
Oh, and as Jez said I’ve put a link to your amazing comic through my website, its just to good for people not to see! (and thanks Jez for giving me a mention!)
December 21st, 2007 at 9:37 am
I suspect the reason a lot of people think the War Chief is an earlier regeneration of the Master is that the writers kind of used the War Chief as a template when they came up with the idea of the Master. They certainly went for the same look in their new villain (the Master), and I know the first time I saw Roger Delgado in Terror of the Autons I wondered if he was meant to be the War Chief who somehow survived his previous encounter with the Doctor - but that idea was soon dispelled as the writers explored the character of the Master.
And Emery - since Rich has stated that he’s using only the TV show (and the movie) as canon, there’d better not be any Iris Wildthyme. If he starts dragging a bunch of non-canon stories into the mix it’ll start becoming overly convoluted. Let’s face it: there’s more than enough history to call upon using the TV shows and a whole host of villains/races/companions/incidental characters that could be used without having to dredge up non-canon material.
December 21st, 2007 at 10:45 am
ooh, i had the war games on vhs, back when i still owned a vcr
must read timewyrm series again though, aparently the war chief tunrned up in one of the doctor who books! gasp!
December 21st, 2007 at 11:14 am
ooh
hee. And the plot thickens. But looking at the Master’s face in that last frame, he isn’t giving up all the info. Hope you and your family enjoy the holidays!
December 21st, 2007 at 12:48 pm
oh wow, can’t wait 2 see what happens nxt.
Merry X’mas!
December 21st, 2007 at 1:05 pm
Gotta say that’s one character I didn’t expect to see return… but a great idea! Can’t wait to see what happens next… have a good Holiday in the meantime though.
December 21st, 2007 at 8:32 pm
Stressfactor, actually that monacle looks rather War Lordish!
=o
Merry Christmas Rich, and to your wife, enjoy your holiday, and looking forward to seeing more of the 10 Doctors (, companions, Master, Monk, War Chief, Rani, Daleks, Cyberman, etc) in the New Year.
P.S. Would I be allowed to copy the avatar you gave me, to use in my personal e-mails and messages? I’m rather fond of it. Ta!
December 21st, 2007 at 9:24 pm
Merry Christmas!
Fantastic as always
December 22nd, 2007 at 12:22 am
Yay for an update! Can’t say I’m all that familiar with the War Chief’s background, but you know there’s gonna be trouble when the Master “teams up.”
Happy Holidays to you all out there!
December 22nd, 2007 at 1:51 am
To all those who care, David Tennant will guest star on Top Gear this Sunday (23rd) on BBC2 at 8:00 PM. Don’t know if many of you know about Top Gear, but if you like watching three (lovable) idiots in really, really, fast cars it’s the best.
December 22nd, 2007 at 9:58 am
WooHooo!!! Happy Christmas to us :))))
Another page, and another twist…
It’s getting to be like a Corkscrew Convention over here, you know you’re going to have to resolve some of this one day, right?
December 22nd, 2007 at 11:01 am

Glee! The War Chief! I’m so pleased to see him. And I absolutely love the Master’s snarky attitude in this one. Hilarious.
Merry Christmas, or other holiday of choice! Thanks for continuing to entertain us
December 22nd, 2007 at 3:27 pm
Wow, brillaint, now all we need is Morbius, Borusa, Rassilon and Omega then we may have all the token time lords.

Can’t You Drwa?write Some On Holiday
December 24th, 2007 at 4:14 pm
Happy Holidays! And only one more day until the Christmas special. Woot!
December 25th, 2007 at 2:42 am
Can’t wait for Voyage of the Damned!!! So Close!
Saw David Tennant on Top Gear, he was a bit miffed that Billie Piper got a better time than he did.
But then, he did destroy the cars gearbox during his lap. Christopher Eccleston couldn’t do it either, they had to find an automatic version of the car for his run. Are there no Timelords (other than Jon Pertwee) who can operate a manual gearbox?
BTW:
Happy Christmas Rich, and happy Christmas to all of you at home!
December 25th, 2007 at 8:10 am

saying “nothing in the world can stop me now!!!!!!” the one that droud in the end. he could show up
and say “you thout I drond doctor, but I am alive!!!!!!!!! nothing in the world can stop
me now!!!!!” then a dalek could exsterminate him.
