Okay DQ, I did a little bit of research (what I could without sitting down with a bunch of episodes and a notepad, which I have no time for at all) and discovered the following:
According to the “History of the Universe According to Doctor Who” book, “The Invasion” takes place in “the 1970s” probably around 1979 according to “New Adventure” resources… which I don’t use. That’s far too late for my liking considering how often later Doctors wander about in the 80’s.
According to “The Doctor Who Discontinuity Guide” (which only goes by episodes), “The Invasion” takes place in 1969.
Both state that there is no clear on-screen indication of what year it is here, or in “The Web of Fear” which takes place “four years earlier” according to a vague throwaway line by the Brig.
So.. conjecture. My comic stands as is. Save for the typos. *embarrassed* Sorry.

I just found your comic and have read the whole thing in one sitting! It is absolutely fantastic! Your artwork is amazing and the story compelling! Keep up the good work!
With regard to your UNIT dating issue - ‘Mawdryn Undead’ claerly states that the Brigadier retired in 1976, so ‘The Invasion’ couldn’t possibly be set in 1979. Plus, in ‘The Sound of Drums’ President Winters implies that UNIT protocols were established in 1968 (the yaar ‘The Invasion’ was broadcast), so clearly the UNIT episodes were contemporaneous to the years they were broadcast.
Once again, well done on a great comic!

Draw ‘em when you can, Rich. Life happens, and sometimes you have to handle your offline business. I am really impressed, as always, with the way in which you bring real life and thought into your interpretation of the characters.
The Ten Doctors is my personal cure to the lack of available Who action on television until Christmas (or at least until the Children in Need special).

Thanks for the history lesson, Rich. I’m a newbie so I don’t know all that much of the history yet. I’m working on it. And as for the new cybermen thing, now I just have more of an excuse to keep reading and apologies to Catain Shade for stealing his question.

And I’m still waiting for the cat fight between Ace and Rose. And barring any bit of her past cropping up and dibilitating her, Ace’ll wipe the floor with her.
And I’m dislexic, Rich…I never even noticed the typos.
Oh…Just a thought…This is after Doomsday for 10, and durring 8’s timeline, right? Well Captain Jack was thrown into the 1890s. And has been biding his time waiting for a “compatable Doctor”. Meaning he was around during all those UNIT adventures. Who’s to say he didn’t get involved, anyway, while waiting? Like I said, Just a thought.
I still think it’s funny that Torchwood is an anagram of Doctor Who.

That was done one purpose. The producers wanted to make sure no one got an illegal ‘advance copy’ of the show befire it aired, so they stored it under an anagram so no one woukd know what it was. Then they decided it sounded cool, so they developed it into what it is now.

Even with the threat of (multiple) death(s), the Rani still keeps her cool. No wonder she’s so exasperated when the Master works with her. They’d better find someone good to play her and actually KEEP her in the series forchrist’ssake.

I absolutely LOVE The Rani’s face in the sixth panel Perfect expression.
I’d be stoked to se her pop up in the series–it’s always fun when bits from the original finally come into play in the new series. But I’d hope they’d wait for awhile, given that the Last of the Time Lords just found out that his old nemisis was still around…until he died. Sucks for the Doctor, having his whole planet destroyed, and only his enemies still around.
That’s cool about Torchwood–I didn’t know it was originally just a code name for the project. I still like the Mistor Saxon=Master No Six anagram. I can’t believe people figured it out before it occurred…makes me feel slow.

I find it funny that the only real Companion blow up we’ve witnessed so far is Ace and Rose. Strange, that. It is the closer-ness in age or something?

I think the Rani had been exiled from Gallifrey already so she probably just wasn’t involved in the Time War.

DQ - ? Aw, don’t stop! I enjoy the discussion! And I didn’t do a lot of nerdy research. I was given these two books over the years at birthdays. Books where bigger nerds than I have done all this tedious work for me. I just had to look it up.
Anyway, Kurt appears to be the foremost expert. I guess he was there when the cybermen invaded. I had to watch it on TV.

Second: People, please stop with the grammatical and spelling corrections, especially when your corrections are WRONG. There’s nothing wrong with “Alright” the way it’s used on this page. And I’m a newspaper editor who worked as a copy editor for most of his early career.

I LOVE the Ace/Rose interactions.
Ace was either the first or second best companion. Rose was… heh, well, don’t want to start an argument, but I’m definitely not a fan. So love the dialogue.

Laura, in this strip, “alright” is being used as an adverb not a adjective, so that spelling was correct.
