The 10 Doctors: page 51

The Daleks struggle with the paradox of having more than one Doctor on the ship at once, when they let slip a secret. Presuming there to only be one REAL Doctor, they decide the 4th Doctor to be real, the 9th Doctor to be an imposter, and mistake the 6th Doctor for “The Keeper”.

The 6th Doctor plays along.

Happy Halloween!

These wouldn’t by the Daleks who the Emperor bred and Rose defeated, then.

The Keeper? The Keeper of [I will not Spoiler this]! This will get interesting!

Rich, I am really thrilled how this will unfold.

  3. Emery Says:

I adore the way you’ve drawn 6 in the second-to-last panel. You can almost see the witty bitty vogs turning in his brain. I love this comic!!

Also, is prolly a truly stupid thing to point out, but the title for this page says it’s page 31 . . .

  4. Kara Says:

    ‘Higher aggression?… HIGHER AGGRESSION?!?!?!!??!’

I just found this whole thing and I AM IN LOVE!
This is seriously the best Doctor Who thing ever… EVER! Its definitely made my day, hell… its made my whole year. Thank you so much for doing this!!

I love all the Doctor’s, they all seem so perfect that I can find no fault in any of them. You should feel very proud and should get this published or something, it should be paraded to the whole world!

  6. Sean Says:

Ooh! Fun! Six is up to something, and it just might prove useful!

I like that Six is being used to a greater importance these days.

Ah! The Valeyard is in command of these Daleks!

Just stumbled onto this webcomic– what a great idea! Really enjoying it, and looking forward to seeing what you have planned. I admit I haven’t seen a lot of classic Who (mostly the fourth doctor and Sarah Jane) but I know enough to enjoy this!

  9. Liz Says:

You never cease to amaze, Rich. You’ve just captured the personalities of everyone you’ve portrayed so well…and the plot is flawless! Keep up the wonderful work!

  10. Rich Says:

Hermes: These wouldn’t by the Daleks who the Emperor bred and Rose defeated, then.

Rich: Welll…. that’s a tricky question. Here’s what we know about the Daleks from “Bad Wolf”/”The Parting of the Ways”:

1- They’re all brand spanking new creations made from genetic material syphoned out of Humans from Earth.

So, no, most of those Daleks are not the same as the classic who Daleks. They’re not even related. Like Davros’ new white Daleks on Necros, they’re similar creatures, but not the same genetic stock.

2- The new Emperor who created them was a survivor of the Time War.

I’m under the impression (I could well be wrong, and if there’s onscreen support for this for or against, please feel free to post it) that it was a soldier who survived alone. Like the pathetic creature in “Dalek”. But this one, instead of being tortured and getting discouraged, instead used technology around it to give itself an even GREATER superior complex then it was “born” with. Declared itself emperor because it knew it was alone and had to start again. And it was the only one qualified for the role. But when it started mixing DNA from whacky humans, declared itself a god.

So the question becomes, was this Dalek originally from Davros’ white Imperial Daleks or from the original strain from Skaro that rejected Davros and had its own Dalek emperor? We don’t know. There’s no evidence onscreen in either direction. However, I have an answer that fancies me, and I will not divulge it here and now. But I plan to reveal my theory in this here comic. So read on and enjoy!

Rich - Thanks! Me too! Sometimes I love my own brain. Can you imagine?

Emery - I adore the way you’ve drawn 6 in the second-to-last panel. You can almost see the witty bitty vogs turning in his brain. I love this comic!!

Rich - Hee… yeah, he’s a thinking Doctor in that panel. Thinking fast and on his feet.
As for the title. Not stupid at all. My darling wife fixed it for us. Thanks for pointing it out.

Kara - ‘Higher aggression?… HIGHER AGGRESSION?!?!?!!??!’

Rich - “Of all the confounded arrogance!” “Steady on, old boy.”

Jess - I just found this whole thing and I AM IN LOVE!

Rich - Golly! In love with the Doctors I hope. I’m happily married and very much off the market. Or maybe you just love the comic as an entity? Well, that’s fine. I think it’s available. Hehee.. thank you! You’re very kind. I’ve been a geek for a long time, so I’m very pleased that it’s been useful in some way. I am quite proud of this thing in a way. Mostly because it’s managed to make other people happy. As for getting it published.. I just don’t feel like inking and colouring the damned thing. I’m happily letting someone else do that. But she’s been busy. Heck, if someone makes me a publishing offer, though… I’ll listen.

Sean - Ooh! Fun! Six is up to something, and it just might prove useful!
I like that Six is being used to a greater importance these days.

Rich - He did get the short end of the stick on the television. My plan is for all of them to get some of the spotlight at some point.

Evil Midnight Lurker - Ah! The Valeyard is in command of these Daleks!

Rich - I didn’t say that. Did I say that?

zanthine - Just stumbled onto this webcomic– what a great idea! Really enjoying it, and looking forward to seeing what you have planned. I admit I haven’t seen a lot of classic Who (mostly the fourth doctor and Sarah Jane) but I know enough to enjoy this!

Rich - That you’re enjoying it is all that matters. And if it inspires you to seek out some more of the classic stuff, I trust you won’t be disappointed. I’ve been a fan of it since the mid-70’s and have seen pretty much everything that’s ever been televised (except, of course, the stuff lost in the famous purge fires).

Liz - You never cease to amaze, Rich. You’ve just captured the personalities of everyone you’ve portrayed so well…and the plot is flawless! Keep up the wonderful work!

Rich - Thanks! I promise to try to do that.

Hah, yay! Poor Nine… he looks like he’s skulking. Silly Nine. (Er… when’s Nine from again, his timeline? I can’t remember.)

  12. Rich Says:

He and Rose came to the Eye of Orion to recover from “Father’s Day”.

  13. Captain Shade Says:

There’s only one other person that Six looks like (Why he picked that form is beyond me). And it was hinted at earlier, that Six’s look-a-like was up to something. Since Rich didn’t say who, in his last multi-comment post, I’ll not say either. But I think most of us old-timers, who actually remember when the shows were new (for me thats the middle of Pertwee’s run, on), have already figured it out.

  14. joe england Says:

EGADS! The Keeper! No! IT’S THE V… Well, maybe.

First off, I am loving every panel of this comic and am so glad you’re back on it.

I think, as evidenced by the episodes ‘Doomsday’ and ‘The Sound of Drums’, there was such a thing as a Dalek Emperor who was recognised as such by the rest of the Daleks. And since the Doctor recognised him, it must have been the one in The Parting of the Ways.

BTW, when I began reading your comic I had never since or heard of Commander Maxil before and wondered why your depiction of him looked so much like the sixth Doctor :). And now it seems that he has another look-alike! How many roles did Colin Baker play on Doctor Who, I wonder?

  16. betawho Says:

This is brilliant! Whoever you are, you have some major talent! You manage to catch the essence of every character, while still retaining your own trademark style. Utterly brilliant.

And I’m enjoying the story immensely. Thank you so much.

  17. Rich Says:

Ibishtar - …I think, as evidenced by the episodes ‘Doomsday’ and ‘The Sound of Drums’, there was such a thing as a Dalek Emperor who was recognised as such by the rest of the Daleks. And since the Doctor recognised him, it must have been the one in The Parting of the Ways.

Rich - There has [almost] always been a Dalek emperor. We see it in all it’s mighty glory in the [sadly, long-lost] 2nd Doctor episode “The Evil of the Daleks”. There are plenty of photos of it online, it’s a mighty fine build. Like a lot of things in the show, there are many ways to interpret it’s chronology in the Dalek storyline and also it’s significance. There are no other classic episodes that refer to an emperor Daleks (did the writers assume that subsequent Daleks episodes happened later after its destruction? Or did they just forget about it entirely?). However, the FASA rpg (totally not cannon in any way and pulled out of print because of their presumptuous use of the properties) presumed that the Daleks always have an emperor. When he gets destroyed, or damaged, or dies or whatever, he is simply replaced by the next most senior Dalek. There is no power struggle or anything because the Daleks all share data and logic in a single enhanced communal brain.
The Daleks from “Doomsday” and “Daleks of Manhattan” would have been from a time in our universe before The Last Great Time War. Their story, interestingly, is similar to that of “The Evil of the Daleks”, where the Emperor is trying to get “the Human Factor” to enhance his cold, [semi]Logical soldiers to think more creatively. Which also ties in to “Destiny of the Daleks” (the cold-logic stalemate with the Movellans) and why Davros’ human Daleks are so much stronger than the orignal strain. They gained the ability to adapt.
So yes. The Daleks always had an emperor.. but not always the SAME emperor.

Ibishtar - BTW, when I began reading your comic I had never since or heard of Commander Maxil before and wondered why your depiction of him looked so much like the sixth Doctor :). And now it seems that he has another look-alike! How many roles did Colin Baker play on Doctor Who, I wonder?

Rich - Yes, Colin Baker’s first (and only non-Doctor appearance so far) in the series was in the 5th Doctor episode “Arc of Infinity” where he played the menacing Gallifreyan guard, Commander Maxil. This apparently helped in his winning the role of the 6th Doctor when Peter Davison relinquished the part.
And as for his ‘look-alike’ in my comic, the Daleks didn’t say he LOOKED like the Keeper. They said his bio-scan matched that of the Keeper. The Daleks, having fought the Doctor for millennia, have learned not to trust physical appearances.

betawho - …Thank you so much.

Rich - No. Thank YOU. Thanks to readers enjoying and supporting my work, I am encouraged to keep going and stick with it. You have no idea how many comics I’ve started and given up on because I was relying on just myself to keep the enthusiasm. Thanks primarily to my loving, supporting wife (who’s also a 1st class geek like myself), and to all of you, this story is very very likely to come to an end that will make us all happy. Eventually.

I’m already considering what to do AFTER this one.

  18. Liz Says:

Just a nonsensical note- technically, you could make Commander Maxil the Keeper, and have the Daleks recognize 6 as the Keeper from his genetic blueprint…since they’re both Baker.

  19. Reality Deviant Says:

Liz: this ‘Keeper’ Rich means is referenced in “Trial of a… “

  20. Liz Says:

Ooooohhhhhhh…..It IS the V-word then. I get it now…I was just a bit slow at first.

  21. dragon64 Says:

I like angry Six in the second panel there. Look out Daleks!

  22. Heather Says:

Speaking of 6 and look-alikes, you could always go for the crossover and have Bayban the Butcher show up from Blake’s Seven. :)

  23. Rich Says:

Heather-Speaking of 6 and look-alikes, you could always go for the crossover and have Bayban the Butcher show up from Blake’s Seven.

Haahaha, no no no! I promised myself I’d stay away from crossovers…

    …this time.

Got some ideas for some wicked crossover stories later, though.

  24. Mreen Says:

I can just see Bayban talking with Six, arm around his shoulder - ‘It’s like my mother always said! Babe - she called me Babe - someday you might find someone out there who understands you like a brother. But if he’s too much like you, you’re better off shooting him and going on your own.”

  25. Dalek Says:

hee hee army of Daleks all at the comand of 6
poor 10 he is the ‘imposter’

  26. me, myself Says:

    Dalek: do you mean nine?
I feel sorry for him too

  27. Luke Says:

This is too much! Go, Doctor Number Six!
